I apologize if this has been done before but I recently saw some production stills of the classic television series 'Leave It To Beaver' and THAT was a hat that old Ward wore in the show!

I would like to know the make and model of this cool 50`s fedora.
Thanks!

Why do you ask?
I REALLY like the beater he wore in the 2nd season episode "Happy Weekend". Matter of fact, his whole look during the fishing scene is great.

I'd be interested in knowing more about Ward's hats, too.

I found this pic from an expired ebay auction and it is listed as "Ward Cleaver`s Fedora". I don`t recall if it was vintage or not but the maker was Hughes & Hatcher. This is a classy 50`s era fedora....want one!

Here`s a pic:

I wonder what the brim width and crown height would be on this guy?

Thanks,

Hmm, I've never heard of that brand. It looks like a 2" maybe 2 1/4" brim and a 4 1/4" to 5" crown.

Off the top of my head, I can't remember any other hats Ward wore apart from the one I mentioned. I'll have to pull out my dvd's and watch through them again.

I really hate how info like hat brands worn on tv shows and such gets lost in the years following. :(

I agree! It can be difficult to discover what brands and makers were responsible for those great classic hats, suits, etc. from classic tv series. Can you say "taken for granted?". lol

I`d never heard of Hughes & Hatcher either.

Hughes & Hatcher wasn't a hat manufacturer, they were a chain of menswear stores. So, the hat in question was either brand name, and the auction confused the retailer's mark for the maker, or else it was a private-label hat that Hughes & Hatcher had someone else make for them and then slapped their brand on.

Which does nothing to answer your original question, sorry!

No,it helps me on the search,Brad.I think the last option you listed is probably the case as aside from this one hat the only H&H items appearing in my searches were vintage men`s clothing(suits, coats, pants).

Thanks!

I wondered about them being a store or a store brand hat... after I commented. hehe

I've watched 3 season one episodes so far and not a hat to been seen on Ward's head or in hand. [huh] Best I can remember, you mostly saw him hat in hand coming through the front door and such.

Or just in glimpses when hustling the family into the station wagon or when he and June were going out.

Hugh Beaumont, right? That was the actor who played Ward?

Yep, Hugh Beaumont. I saw an episode yesterday, Garage Painters, where Ward came in from the rain carrying a cloth fedora similar to the one Alvy Moore wore as Hank Kimball on Green Acres. [Another hat I'd seriously LOVE to own :p ]

No, I only recall short brimmed fedoras and the aforementioned fishing beater and "rain" hat. Though, the episodes I remember seeing him in a hat were past seasons 1 & 2 which are the only ones available on dvd. Need to watch some episodes on Netflix.
