This hat won’t get a lot of wear, but the felt is wonderful and I couldn’t bring myself to modify it by cutting down the brim. Maybe I’ll wear it to a stock show or livestock auction.

Thanks, but the real cowboys can spot a fake a mile away and I might be inviting something I’d be wise to avoid. :)

  6. 1940-1943 Carlsbad sold by Sears & Roebuck

4" brim with pencil roll x 7" Open Crown with frayed ribbon. 100% wool felt, color is Nutria Tan. Pounced very thin to a featherweight, almost too soft now.

Last hat I made like this sold in an hour on eBay. I made four more and two are gone and I think those two won't be around long. Bikers like it too.

Stetson Nutria arrived. Color appears is more Natural as opposed to brown. Tagged 7 1/8 long oval, 3" brim bashed to a low profile telescope of 3 3/4". Embroidered Liner and sweat appear almost like new, no stains, leather is very, very soft and buttery. Stetson crest has the stars (no maple leaf) orange elongated inventory tag is older style that dates between 1930 - 1940. ??? Very minty hat. Now onto brushing, steaming, and straightening out the little lumps & bumps and cleaning up the crease around the telescope. Very excited about this find. ;)

Those don’t come around often and yours looks to be in excellent condition. Are you leaving it as a telescope or...????

Have not fully decided yet Brent. That's the plan for now. I may add a pencil curl or do a more teardrop telescope. For now I just want to steam it and work out the little bumps and wrinkles. I like the shapes of these two hats, so while steaming I will play around a bit and see what it turns into.
