I'd forgotten how much I love listening to 'Star Dust'.

Listening to the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra playing 'Star Dust' from 1931.

*track-change*

Sam and the Cafe American Orchestra - "Knock on Wood".

Soundtrack to The King's Speech.

I found a guy on Youtube who was able to hammer out the theme on his piano, and wrote up a quick sketch of the sheet music... He will email anyone who wants a copy, but I don't have a Youtube account (I try to stay away from there if I can help it. I don't have anything to post, and I limit the extent of my presence on social networking sites. Here and Fountain Pen Network are as much as I do) to PM him. If anyone here has a Youtube account, and wouldn't mind doing me a small favor, please PM me. I really want to be able to play it.

Thanks,

Cowboy Jazz doing Hey, Good Lookin'. The Andrews Sisters Meet Bob Wills.
Followed by Don't Be Blue and Sugar Moon.

Just found that record in an antique store a couple months ago. I've really been enjoying it. Just goes to show how much great music is out there all the time that very few people have heard of.

The first contemporary group that I can remember that had kind of a vintage feel to their music. I thought it was pretty cool back in '72. Only later did I find the music that inspired them.

Carlos Gardel -- Silencio (tango) (1932)

Lyrics (Translation)

Silence in the night, all is calm
Bodies are asleep, ambition is at rest
Rocking a cradle, a mother sings
A beloved song that touches the soul
Because in the cradle lies her hope

There were five brothers, a saint for a mother
Each morning five kisses
Would tenderly graze the silver strands
Of this little old mother's white hair
Five sons who went to work in the factory

Silence in the night, all is calm
Bodies are asleep, but ambitions are at work
A bugle sounds... the Nation is in danger!
To the shout of "War" men slaughter each other
Covering the fields of France with blood

Now all that is past. Plants bloom
Plowed fields sing a hymn to life
And the little old mother, with white hair
Remains all alone... with five medals
For five heroes, awarded to her by the Nation

Silence in the night, all is calm
Bodies are asleep, ambitions at rest
A distant choir of mothers, singing as
They rock their cradles new hopes
Silence in the night... silence in souls
