Not of the Golden era, but of my era...

I still have the shrink wrap, some on better condition than others, on many albums, complete with price sticker!

That was $10.49 Canadian in 1985, for the thin vinyl used. People complain about vinyl prices today, for what is no longer a massed produced, but niche product, using 180 grams.

I just found an inflation converter for Canada -

https://inflationcalculator.ca/

It uses the government's "basket of goods", food, clothing, housing, transport, etc., to calculate yearly inflation.

That $10.49 pre-tax album in 1985 would be $21.01 today. Frankly, lower than I would have thought after 36 years.

I am paying between $28.00 and $38.00 now for 180 g vinyl new albums.

In 1985, there were a dozen or more vinyl pressing plants in Canada alone. Churning out records in the millions.

Today there is ONE. I have read that an order for 5,000 albums can take a week to produce, so many are imports, Germany, UK and US having capacity.
