What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

Absolutely immaculate LL Bean G1 from a local pickup, the only wear I can find is on the tag. Apparently from late 70s or 80s - no idea how to date in the event one of you know.

Size 44
“Garnet goat” skin
Shearling lamb skin/wool lining
black Mouton collar

That jacket is super nice! Back when LL Bean was making really nice stuff. I think I remember that jacket back in the 1980's. I bet that was hanging in someone's closet for the last 40 years.

Been a bit since I wore this baby!
This one is from Standard & Strange X Simmons Bilt -Vanishing Point jacket. Honestly don’t even think they make this jacket anymore but, it’s absolutely stunning! IMHO, Simmons Bilt does the best design in a straight zip jacket. It has gusset shoulders but, the gussets are high and neat, can barely tell they’re there. This is size 38 on me….

Thanks. I don’t wear enough. Partly because I like it so much.

it does well in the rain

Most leather does well in the rain. Even cheap leather. I have a cheap leather jacket. The type of A-2 knockoff that's ill fitting and found in shopping malls. Rain has never soaked through it. I use a little of the same oil that I apply to boots. It's lasted over 30 years. That's the only reason why I never got a nice leather jacket. The cheap jacket keeps holding up. 30 years of hunting, hiking, fishing, camping, and even riding the bus.

Hmm in my experience some hides you may get more damp wearing them than others. Like they'll absorb the wet and pass it on to you rather than beading up and rolling off. I think this one did well considering its not particularly heavy.

But the truth is that the LL Bean flight jacket is more like an A-2 then a G-1. It doesn't have a half belt. It doesn't have a by-swing back. It doesn't have underarm footballs. It has epaulettes. I got mine new in 1984 and have been wearing it ever since. It's a great jacket. But it's not a G-1. And as far Himmel, it takes one to know one I guess.

Interesting...

By chance do you know about the story of Achilles, a central figure in Greek mythology?

Speaking of Mr Himmel.. Anyone watch this one?
Reminded me of the whole storse/horsehide/steerhide discussion where it's basically impossible to tell the two apart in most cases.
