Every time I think I've settled for the leather I want for my custom jacket, I see this black shinki leather, and I'm right back at square one, questioning what leather I should get. Awesome jacket.
Congrats, it looks very nice on you! How does it feel? Its high armholes are really cool feature but kind of specific, they should feel comfortable when sizing is correct. What's the leather finally? John wrote in his ad that it's Horween (if I remember correct) but on photos it looks a bit similar to Shinki, though not as shiny as Shinki usually is. What do you think of the leather? How does this leather look and feel in hands? Is it more on soft and pliable side (like Shinki and Vicenza usually are for instance) or it's more on stiff and sturdy side of feeling? On photos it does look very nice! Anyway, this purchase has definitely deserved its very long trip from the U.S. to Australia, it was worth it!
Thanks! I did get very lucky with this one. I think the leather being broken in already was a bonus. The grain and sheen on it is amazing.
Its a amazing jacket in person photos don’t do it justice, I’m very happy with the fit, I’ve been wearing it pretty much non stop since it arrived very easy and comfortable to wear, zipped up I have no issues driving sitting down ect can move freely in it, I know John mentioned he had issues driving maybe due to to high arm holes? I’m a stocky scrawny guy so the pattern seems to work well for my frame, the leather according to John is Horween 3oz, seems to be a very dark brown with a lighter brown peaking out from underneath so will look incredible with more wear I predict , the leather in my opinion is mid-weight, soft pliable but tough has real character and grain popping all over , I’m not sure it could be chrome tanned? Thanks for your quick and helpful reply Thuggee, this GW really looks perfect on you. Seems this beaut has finally found its correct owner, sincerely glad for you mate! Nice purchase. I also think it might be chrome-tanned esp. if it was tanned by Horween, but it actually doesn't matter if the leather is chrome-tanned or veg-tanned 'cause it looks really gorgeous anyway, and moreover - it fits you best, which possibly is the most important thing in this hobby. Congrats again, well done!
Lol, The Royal Dick... I do envy Leither his location. Not only is Edinburgh beautiful, but he can wear his jackets year-round! Unlike hot and steamy NYC in summer. It is a t-shirt or a polo shirt here.
