Not sure where you got that idea from, but I hang all of my blazers and suit jackets buttoned for the exact same reason above.

I can't remember the original source which discussed the cut of the front half of the blazer vs the back, but if you hang a jacket unbuttoned you'll see that one side overlaps the other, and if the buttons were done it will wrinkle the front.

This is what my search on google just brought up:

A suit coat should be hung unbuttoned to prevent strain on the buttons and buttonholes, which can lead to damage over time, especially if the jacket is heavy or has been worn for a long period; leaving it unbuttoned allows the fabric to relax and maintain its shape while hanging.


Key points about hanging a suit coat unbuttoned:

• Reduces stress on buttons:
  When a jacket is buttoned while hanging, the pressure on the buttons and buttonholes can cause them to stretch or even tear, especially if the fabric is delicate.
  
  
  
• Preserves the shape:

I posted my entire jacket collection here a while back, and a few people asked what my favourite jacket was. I have a new answer.

This jacket seems to ****le refined / preppy and sporty / rugged so well.

The only thing I would change is to make the leather a bit more waterproof (i believe it’s a naked cowhide).
