Did it start out smooth with very little grain showing? That's just incredible looking. I'm trying to learn to calibrate my eye to tell which Vanson hides will end up looking like this. Just stunning!! That seems to make sense based on my limited exposure to this topic also. I think I've read that's about when Vanson stopped using horsehide. Can't remember where I read that, somewhere on this forum.

Haha you noticed. Simply out of convenience. The belt right now is too stiff to bend and then go through the buckle so I started skipping it until the leather softens enough it can bend fast enough for easy operation.
