What's Love without Danger of a Broken Heart?

The author looks to Hollywood a bit too much for his social barometer. Screenwriters, directors, and playwrights do not a majority make, and their view of romance is most certainly farfetched.

I think I'll stick to the idea that eventually I'll find somebody that may not be a perfect match, but is certainly right. I've struck out three times already. Thinking that there is 'the one' is somewhat naive. Conversely, having many casual relationships is never going to be fufilling if you're looking for something permanent.

It depends, of course, on the individual. Some people can move on almost immediately. Others can take years to get over someone, or might never.

Forget Hollywood, look right in my house

At least 2 boyfriends of mine never have dated another girl after me. Ever. Not one. One is now my best friend, the other a recluse in Vermont, so I have heard.
After my mom left my dad, he was never serious about anyone either. They remained friends too. So I can see the "heartbroken forever after" occurs in real life.

I never dated anyone after my last boyfriend, and that's been ten years. My heart isn't broken anymore, it's just that I couldn't get together with the few men I was interested in after that.

I don't go to church, don't go to bars, and my experiences online have been icky. I've met some nice guys at dances, but most of them are too young for me.

My brother has said that if anything happened to his wife, he'd never remarry. He's not romantic--he'd just rather be single than try to make a marriage work with someone else.

So neither my brother nor I fall into the brokenhearted forever category, but we certainly don't feel we can replace one somebody with another somebody.
