My one and only whippet has “Whippet” stamped on the sweat band and no Whippet markings on the lining. The entire Whippet hats I noticed on ebay or pictures posted on the Fedora Forum had Whippet printed on the hat lining and not the sweat band. Anyone have any back ground regarding Whippet stamping appearing on the sweat band verses the hat liner?

Whippets sold (and presumably manufactured) in Canada had "Whippet" on the sweat and not the liner. I can't make out the shop imprint on your old sweat, was it in the U.S. or Canada?

Salty:
I think you are correct about the hat being made in Canada; the store name looks to be LANDER & GODEY MEN’S WEAR. I cannot make out the line under Men's Wear but the last letters are AND.
Far as dating the hat, the Stetson Crest on my Whippet is the same as the picture below I copied from a JTL posting from the thread on dating Stetson by crests. Also I have identical sweat crests on my Johnnyphi Royal Deluxe with per Johnny dates from the 40's and on my Royal Deluxe OR with I believed to be one of the earliest ORs based on the OR logo If I remember right about 1952. The size label is consisted with 1940s to early 1950s but then nothing appears consisted with Stetson sweat and lining crests from the 1940s – 1950s and when you add Canada manufacturing to the mix I am confused.
Thanks your reply

Thanks Buler
I saw your post asking about the Whippet marked on the sweat band and not the lining at the time and remember feeling guilty not replying. I was hammer at work just got lazy. Moving on it looks like Aqaushed could be part of the label under the store name. I will add this thread to the pervious one

I just got a whippet with the logo on the side of the sweatband and it was from a store in Vallejo, CA. Any ideas about that?

I just joined the forum and I’ve been hesistant to post anything…it’s tough to be a newby!

I think I can make a contribution to this thread, however. The first real hat I ever bought was at an auction that was selling off the contents of a business that supplied costumes for the Stratford Festival (live theatre specializing in Shakespeare and Shaw). It was an old and pretty beat up Stetson Whippet. The “Whippet” logo is on the sweatband. The band also has a stamp that states: “Made exclusively for EATON’S men’s wear”. Eaton’s was a large department store chain here in Canada…along the lines of Macey’s.

So…I don’t know if this just muddies the waters, but it’s a Canadian Whippet and it’s labeled on the sweatband. I still have it and it’s still one of my favorites.

I have actually seen a Whippet marked only on the paper sticker under the liner! Nothing marked on the liner or the sweatband. Now, it did have an official Stetson liner but it was just a liner without the word Whippet on it. I guess it is always possible that the liner had been changed sometime in the past and the Whippet liner removed. Still, when I saw it that is how it was.
