Alexander Woollcott, correct -- critic, radio commentator, and member of the Algonquin Round Table. "The Man Who Came To Dinner" was a thinly-disguised parody of him.

Too bad they got Monty Woolley to play the role in the movie. I have seen films of Woolcott. His appearance, demeanor and flat nasal New England accent would have been much funnier. If Nathan Lane had patterned his performance on Woollcot instead of Woolley he would have done a lot better.
