Hi, newbie here, so I apologize if I'm out of order.

I would like to find a brown or dark tan Stetson Open Road, size 7 1/8. Pre-70s era and in good shape.

If you're selling or know someone that is, will you please let me know!

Welcome. I was a longtime reader and now contribute every now and again. :)

Folks will want to know what quality you are looking for. As a general rule you will want a pre-1960s hat. The older models are not only harder to find, they are of much higher quality. You might find someone offering hats of the following quality:

Royal Deluxe
3X Beaver Quality
7X Clear Beaver

A 3X Beaver will run you between $100-150 on eBay, depending on if it is early to later 50s.

A 7X Clear Beaver runs from $150-250, again depending on age and also who has set their sights on the hat. They sometimes hit around $300.

Have you run a search on eBay? A search for Stetson 3X Open Road or 7X Clear Beaver quality will give you good results.

Reading more through the forum will help you get more information on the age and quality of the hat. There are a lot of threads covering the info. These are a good start:

All the best, I hope the info helped at least a little.

PS My price ranges above are just a general guide; you might find a good deal or a particularly high quality hat might go for more.

Thanks for the tips. I've read a lot of posts here, some of WTH's posts (e.g. http://www.publiusforum.com/2011/01...signations-just-what-do-those-xs-mean-anyway/), and have been scouring ebay, gw, etsy, and a few other sites for a while now, but figured I'd post a classified here too.

I'd like something on the nicer end. Early 60s or earlier ideally. Sovereign / 3x quality or better ideally. Similar high-end models like the 100 would be great if it popped up somewhere.

But, it seems like there aren't a lot of darker tan / brown models out there, so I don't think I can be too picky.

Oh!

Maybe you've already looked, but let me put in a shameless plug for some of the guys on here who make custom hats and can definitely meet your requirements, especially if you are looking for a hat or gift you really want to stand out!

Art Fawcett, Northwest hat Co, and AlleyCat are three folks I've been seeing a lot on the board. A lot of people posting really love their work. If you're looking for quality (and not necessarily a vintage hat), they can surely do it for you.

Give them a a quick once over if the idea sticks!

Greetings Colorado et al:
First welcome to the lounge. There’s wisdom to asking members for hat references and no doubt many can help.
However, i think you would get many more responses in the Ask a Question Get an Answer thread.
That being said, finding a Brown Open Road may be a chore unless Stetson offers a current one or a Modern one. I believe a vintage one is rare.
There are many brown hats available just not ORs.
Good luck in your search and again, welcome.
Be well. Bowen
