Paddy, If you're going for the T.E. Lawrence look that Peter O'Toole sported in Lawrence of Arabia, good luck. WPG has an OR's trench cap and a a WW2 era officer's SD cap. The SD cap might be the place to start, but you're going to need to remove everything in the crown (liner, sweatshield, stiffening material of unknown composition) in order to get that floppy flat topped appearance that his had. I've been thinking of trying that myself, but have yet to get the spare cap on which I'll need to experiment.

Cheers!

Dinerman! I turned the web upside down looking for a servicable Sam Browne in a nice russet shade. I'm finally successful, and then you post this link! :eusa_doh:

Please tell me you are also hiding a link to a WWI US Army service cap, too!

I'd just say, be very circumspect about how and where you wear anything so obviously military. Just a case of having the same respect for the uniform that you would have for those who once wore it, that's all.

The only person I ever saw bring off a crush cap (USAAF) with civvies was in the late 70s. She was an ostentatiously androgynous female who ran the soundboard at a theater. She wore plaid flannels and jeans. And the hat had been her dad's. She'd slip into the swivel chair, clamp on the phones over the hat and she was in charge!
