Thanks for posting this - impressive work, from the days before digital cameras and satellite imagery. I've handled some of the training manuals (both US and UK - http://www.antiqbook.co.uk/boox/und/31858.shtml ). That science was taught and used right up into WWII (check the bottom borders of the Normandy invasion maps).

Thanks for posting this. This is a fascinating story about a man doing something I'd not thought about under absolutely horrific conditions. I'm glad to read that his unsung bravery and that of others has not been forgotten.
