Hey all,

How does the sizing on these things work? I need a pair for my gear, but I don't know how much they go for, or what the sizing is like. Any info would be great!

I've seen them for as littl as a dollar at flea markets.
Even tho there are sizes, you have to be careful as they may have been shrunk from boiling them for cleaning.
And some were made for cadets & women.....
anyway, 3R is the standard size

this link might have some:

But you'll get a better price at a reenactmnt.
Early war are khaki, later war OD. The later ones are usually shorter as well. The hardware goes from brass to black metal.

A standard men's size though, am I right? I have a pair of 3Rs and I'm 5" 10" tall with a 32" trouser inseam. Perhaps Lauren should use this as a guide to get something that might fit her properly, say a 2?

Cheers!

Maybe this will help?

From Bailey's Outfitters 1940 catalog. How to measure for gaitors. You may be able to match your measurements to a standard size from these parameters. Apparently that's what the folks at Bailey's did, as I can't imagine every pair would be custom made. Good luck.

Thanks, all! That's exactly the kind of things I needed to know! I think I'll go with a smaller size, cause I'm a bit small, even for a girl. Thanks again :)

I have fairly large calves from dancing, and I wear a 2R. You can wear men's, as a lot of women in the field did anyway. I also have a pair of women's leggings, I believe they are a size 2 also. I would go with a 2 or even a 1. You can find men's pretty inexpensively - good ones should still go for under $15. For women's you can expect to pay a little more!
