Yet another "does it fit" - Aero Highwayman Horsehide edition

Hello!

I recently received my made to order jacket from Aero. I sized down in the chest and got them to widen the shoulders a bit to accommodate my build (5'7", 155lbs, broad shoulders). I'm worried it may be a bit too small though--that it'll bunch up in the shoulders forever when I lift my arms to chest height or higher. It's hard to tell because it's so new and stiff. LMK what you think--if it's too small I need to stop wearing it and try and get some store credit for a new jacket.

Looks large in the shoulders and overall a bit baggy. Sleeves are perfect to a bit short for a moto. Not my jam. But overall I’d say it’s a baggy fit not small by any means.

It's hard to tell from the photos but fit looks good to me. The thing with photos is a super tight unwearably too small jacket on a person photographs really well and will look great in pictures. A jacket that fits comfortably with just the right amount of a little extra room can look too big in photos. So when people say things like "looks baggy" or "the shoulders are too wide" take it with a grain of salt. Some photos taken from the back would help also.

One thing I will say about the hwymn though is I'm not a fan of the small neck hole they're doing on these. I had a great one from 2012 or so which I stupidly sold. I missed it and regretted selling it, so about a year or 2 ago I ordered a new one through thurston. Got it in a 38, same size as my old one, which is a size or 2 under my normal size, and it had a brutal tiny neck hole. I don't remember the neck hole on my old one being unusually small, maybe it was I don't know, but it made me wonder if they are doing the necks on these smaller now. I know they have changed the collar itself since then, making it smaller, so it could be they've adjusted the neck hole size as well. Not sure how different the neck hole size is on larger sizes, how much larger they get as they go up in size. According to aero I should be wearing this jacket in a 40 or 42, which is huge on me, but could be the neck on one that size would have fit me better. Anyway, that one detail ruined the jacket for me and I sold it on. And I'm a slim guy with a smaller than average neck. If I had a normal size neck it would have been just ridiculous. Maybe it's a European thing, to have an ultra fitted collar that fits like a shirt collar?

The more I read all these ‘fit check’ posts the more I wonder whether they are actually of any real use.
In just this short thread there are some who think the Highwayman is a bit baggy, some think it doesn’t look too small, while another says to take any comments about it being baggy or to wide in the shoulders with a ‘grain of salt’

I’m not saying that any of these comments are wrong because within reason the fit of a jacket is very much a personal thing.
It’s great that there are those who are willing to help with their advice, I’ve also done so in the past, but what might be too baggy to one person, could be reasonable, too tight, too long, too short or even perfect to others.
The only person who’s thoughts really count is the person who’s jacket it is and generally they probably have a good idea of whether they are happy with the fit before they’ve even asked for a ‘fit check’
And if they have any concerns no matter how many reassuring comments they receive they’ll probably still have the same nagging doubts whenever the put the jacket on.

The jacket fits well. Wear a jacket more often and it will be even better.

It definitely doesn’t look too small. If that’s your only concern, consider it a non-issue. Leather (most) needs time to break in, so it isn’t going to fit like a cloth jacket in terms of motion range right off the bat.

Looks like a reasonable fit to me. I notice you have the side adjusters cinched though, which you shouldn’t need to do on a custom jacket.

Yea...I agree. It is 43" tin circumference. My waist is like 33". Even fully cinched, it's very relaxed even on the bike. For casual wear, half-cinched it's got a cone-effect going, like it's designed to accommodate a beer-belly. I'm talking to Aero about this because I specified the hem be reduced and they had assented.

Here are some illustrative examples so you see the disparity:

Very cinched, still a wide gap - My waistline

I agree, I've been here a long time, since 2012, and have seen a lot of these threads. And more often than not they're brutal with a lot of guys here taking the opportunity to make the OP feel like cr@p. Plus the handful of usual suspects who will also take the opportunity to post pics of themselves in their jackets in a very 'this is how it's done son' kinda way LOL. You probably know who I'm talking about because it's the same guys do this in nearly every fit opinion thread with their same photos, showing off how super-pleased they are with themselves posing in their nifty little jackets LOL. It's less about being helpful and more about being tools. I posted a pic of myself here once early on in one of my jackets, and haven't again since. It was just nuts how it devolved into a d!ck measuring contest with these dudes. So I hate to see it when others fall into the trap, and feel for the OP's, which are usually brand new members posting about their 1st good jacket

@justsomedudeiguess, hi. Listen, and I'll be as honest as I can possibly be, once you're done reading my post, please don't ever click on this thread again and in fact, ask the mods to delete it because you have NOTHING to second guess or worry about. This is as good a fit you can get out of the Highwayman and that is to say it looks brilliant on you. And that's an achievement in its own right as this jacket is so all over the place and I've seen a lot of people throughout the years that passed thru here that should've asked for a refund.

In short, you are good.
