In this day and age you were damn lucky to find someone who could sew!

In a hotel no less.

Tell me about it. I learned as a young sprat, so I used to think everyone could sew. It sure comes in handy when you lose a button, or need to hem your pants, or even make your own clothes when nothing in the stores is quite right :)

I like your suits, Justin!

No I wouldn't have---especially if I got some. :p

I'm shocked :p
Oh, I know, and at the most inconvenient of places. I wore one of my vintage dresses to a wedding, and it had the tiniest of holes under the back zipper. During the reception, when I sat down in a chair, doesn't the hole rip all the way down the seat of the dress! Thank goodness I had a shrug I could cover up with while I scurried to the hotel manager's office, and she sewed up up for me. The suffering we do for vintage :p

Thanks, the effects are quite cool!

Oh wow... that must have been embarrassing! What a lucky break that someone could sew it :) Luckily my tear happened when I was trying it on at home.

That's an excellent point. The other huge problem with wearing real vintage all the time is the durability of the clothing. Many things are still rockin' on, for sure, but many more have been damaged and worn out with use and time. It isn't feasible to wear them every day, unless you're okay with ruining them - and I am vehemently against that. If they've lasted this long that they've made their way into my hands, I could not be the one to initiate their demise.

Ooo if you do, I found the best place for it: http://www.befunky.com/

Here's one of the ones I did. They come out pretty good, eh? :)

Nice, what did you do to make the picture have an older finish look to it?

I had one new silk shirt that had a separation right on a seam below the arm pit area, and due to it being a "herringbone" pattern, was afraid it would just pull apart even if it was sewn back together. I purchase some fabric glue and after sewing it, put a slight amount close to the edge of the repair area on the inside, and it has held for a long time now. I also tend to hand wash items like that to help keep them from being beat up in the washer machine.
