Very nice Westerns H.J.
Thought I'd add this Resistol 3X to the Western Hats thread. This was one aggravating hat to work with. Too much crown. I reblocked and recreased this thing three times. I couldn't get the crown creased low enough, (I tried both a Center Dent and a C crown), without the sides tapering. I finally decided on a Diamond crease, which I don't particularly care for. But, in this case it worked out. I was able to lower the crown a bit and keep the sides pretty straight all the way around, (still tall, though, but not like it was before). I also accentuated the Cross inside the Diamond as a tribute to the faith of Jesus Christ. I sewed on a 6 ply mid ribbon with just a keeper....

Here's the Kevin O'Farrell 3.5x6, now with a "Gus" crown crease raked forward from 6" down to 3" in the front. The high brim sides have been lowered & may yet get a slight turned up edge; I'm undecided. The true color of the hat is a light pecan. I've decided I want to dress it with a .75 - 1.00" wide beaded hatband with a repeating Native American geometric pattern in green. If nothing grabs me soon, I may order the one from Charlie Hunt. I'm liking the way it's shaping up!

Needs a bit of smoothing work after it sits for a while:

Nice fire pit & setting for a little R&R! Even better if it's on your own private land!
Thank you, the fire pit is great, and the day was beautiful. As for the land, it's a friends place, that the family and I are staying while we close the deal on a place of our own. We're living in a straw bale cabin, which has been great fun!

I'd like also to compliment you on that reworked hat you posted! Great stuff, and now, a fine looking hat!

Thanks for the compliment, but a Gus crease is not all that complicated.

I've never seen a straw bale structure other than pics. I know they turn up for sale on the market from time to time in NM. I've seen them listed with the Earthships they build there. They sound interesting for a cabin or vacation home in the right climate.

I'd love to see pics of a straw bale cabin.

Here's a photo of the strawbale cabin (I'll get some interior shots once we get the inside cleared up...still moving in). In the photo I'm wearing my Stetson Revenger with horse hair hatband, so as to keep it on topic. ;)
Very interesting, looking forward to shots of the interior.
