I've been going thru boxes of old family pictures. It appears my grandfather is pretty happy about getting a new hat, probably for his birthday. I'm going to guess it was the Mid-1950's. Anyone recognize the box? Is that a Lee & would the timeframe work?

I think the dating is good guess. Notice it came formed. Lee was an early proponent of machine formed hats.

Thanks Steve. Good info!

I found this picture of a brother-in-law to my grandfather. I remember him, his grandson pictured, & his farm from yrs later but I'm estimating this picture to be no later than from 1940. I remember he always wore smaller Western hats which I think by the 1960's were Open Road/LBJ style.

You are so lucky to have these images of your father. Any idea as to the brand/type of these hats. It would be cool to clone them from one of our hatters.
No, I have no idea Red. He went back into service again & I don't ever remember him wearing one. We lived in a small town so retailers would have been few. His hats may have been Lee's since that is his dad in the pic receiving a Lee as a birthday gift.

Looking at these pics of him I never realized how much my own son looked like him at times.

My brother passed away recently and I was looking through some old photos. I ran across this one from my First Communion. My dad always rocked a Fedora, long beyond the time they were commonly fashionable. I really like this pic that was so 1966. Dad sporting his hat and Mom with the mink jacket and gloves. I guess this could have worked in the old gas station thread too

with the Tulsa sign in the background with 27 cent gasoline!

FWIW I also found this pic of a young teenage Doc (?14?) on what I think was a trip to either Mexico or Jamaica, sporting some cheap hat I don't remember.

What a great legacy of hats in the family. Your dad was a stylin dude! Do you remember if he had a "signature" brand? I wonder what hats his dad wore?
