Right now, before I have the hat in hand, I'm inclined to agree with you Jack about the pug. I'll see what I think when I have a good look at it. I'll also do some research about factory pugs on 40s felt Stetsons like Justin suggests. If it looks like it came that way I'll be more likely to keep it.
I do think a light color 1" or so ribbon might look pretty good on it.

Thanks Justin. Eric @Short Balding Guy has posted a couple of vintage felts with pugs on the hat adornment thread. One was a Stetson Beachcomber. So this is at least two styles of Stetsons that were sold with pugs.1949

I was looking at that one, it was a tad above my price range so I slept on it. By the time I woke up, apparently you owned it! Congrats, I hope it’s even better in person - the color reminds me of Akubra’s bluegrass green.1940s or so Penney's Marathon. Snatched it right before bed on a BIN.

I don’t know much about Resistol hats - not even the age of this “Wide Country” (my guess is 1950s, but for all I know it could be 2017) - but for 20 USD I’ll bite.

Me as well. The seller described it as "blue/grey," so I think it might look different in person. Thanks for sleeping! I hesitated about 30 seconds before I pulled the trigger. A 1940s Marathon (not 1970s as the seller listed) in that condition doesn't come along very often, and the price was good. It's supposed to be here Monday.
If it still says Byer-Rolnick, it's pre-1968. You probably have a late 50s hat, and those Wide Country's are supposed to be pretty nice. Resistol made a helluva hat.

Yeah? I hope so! Another lounger once described his Wide Country 3X in glowing terms - we’ll soon see if I can speak as highly. I just haven’t found a lot a lot of info on it.

Late 50s seems to be where my hat angel lives. I have yet to be disappointed with a hat from that era, though!
