Most places with a commercial fishery allow for some sort of availability to the public. Greed fuels the politics behind regulations which do not allow direct sales from the fishing boat to the consumer. I've seen local ordinances which require commercial fishing boat operators to sell only to a wholesaler which is inspected by the government, which also outlaws recreational fisherman selling any part of their catch. Allegedly, it's in the interest of food safety. Seafood which has not been inspected, cannot be sold. However, when you look a little deeper, 1 or 2 families own half a dozen wholesale operations, and they set a fixed price. Which allows them to buy the fish at much lower costs, and sell for much higher costs. The same families usually "control" the fishery by owning the actual piers and collecting rent for the boat docks, selling fuel, selling supplies & equipment, servicing the boats, and act as the distributor who brokers and delivers the product to stores and restaurants. Where I live, it's not even a secret. The ONE family who controls the waterfront, has their names on all of those businesses. ONE family. One extended family. They even control the ONE shop at the waterfront which sells fresh seafood to the public.

This story is about A male GP (doctor) who was prevented from donating blood to the Scottish NHS because he refused to sign a form saying he was not pregnant.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...d-away-Scottish-NHS-refused-say-pregnant.html It seems like someone has lost touch with reality. Is this what is defined as "woke?"

Dr Steffen McAndrew, 41, booked an appointment at a blood donation centre in Ayr on Tuesday evening. However, he was told by a nurse he could not continue unless he confirmed he was not carrying a child. 'I can't believe they would refuse a donation from a man based on the fact I refused to say if I was pregnant,' he said, adding, 'I just wish basic common sense could be applied in these situations. A man can't be pregnant.'

Is this kind of stupidity unique to the UK? If you had heard of something similar do share.

I think that is defined as just "dumb".

We just paid $700 to the Department of Natural Resources here in Missouri to have an Asbestos Inspection of a free-standing metal canopy (in front of a commercial business) that we needed to have demolished. The City Inspector tried to get around it as, of course, there would be no asbestos in the metal awning, but the DNR insisted. Then they "inspected" it by looking at photos and saying "proceed, but if you find asbestos while you are demolishing it, then follow the law and directions of the Clean Air Act". Sheesh ...

Something for call center workers. I used to take calls for a very large insurance company. I learned to deal with most things. The one act that drove me nuts were people chewing. I was contacted by another insurance to coordinate with them. The other agent there started chewing on their headset microphone. I lost it on them and said some things I probably shouldn't have but they pulled that microphone out of their mouth.

People pushing strollers, who step off the sidewalk and into the street, while waiting for an opening in traffic. Don't they know that you are supposed to wait on the sidewalk? Don't they know that they are pushing their baby into oncoming traffic?

Sounds like typical Daily Mail confected outrage-porn. Blood donations have a standardised consent form with everything on it, presented to any and all donors as a catch-all. I can imagine how inefficient the whole thing would end up if they had to tailor every specific individual with their own version of the form. "Woke"? Well, per its contemporary definition as "things I don't like and to which I will take performative offence", quite possibly. Doubtless if they did other than have a single, standard form the same organ would be outraged at the money "wasted" by providing same.

Is there an alarm signal, near to Starfleet's Red Alert around these iphones or Samsungs or whatever?

Even the kid himself in the railcar was surprised and said: "What is that??" Maybe, he had a new game running or whatever.

A tad joke, bit woke but it's the preferred pronouns that are the real trippers. Totally steal the show that.

There exists a lack of sense with the woke crowd that clings to truth wherein all the silly emphasized nonsense.

How I love the term, outrage-porn. Edward, I'm not allowed to donate blood anymore since it leaves me anaemic, but previously I donated blood all of my life since I was a student.

Do you remember RAG-Week? For anyone unfamiliar with the acronym it's short for Raising And Giving. One of the stunts that I got roped into was to go to the local blood-bank and fill it, we did too, and I have been donating ever since. The National Blood Transfusion Service, as it's so called, issued me with a donor card, seen here. with personal information blanked.
002.JPG 001.JPG
Every subsequent donation has a certificate issued and entered on the right hand side. The card above was a new re-issue when we had moved house, the previous card was also bulging with 15 years of certificates.

In all that time and all those donations, not once was I asked for anything but name, address and any medical condition.

I think, John Banner got it right, plus the legendary 2nd synchro of H.H.. Remember this, when Klink has to be Lance Corporal temporary?:

:p

You have to remember that, as strange as it sounds, Hogan's Heroes had to be dubbed into German before it was aired in Germany, and they cast voice actors for that. I don't know whose voices those are, but they aren't John Banner or Werner Klemperer.

That said, John Banner was born in Vienna, Austria, and Werner Klemperer was born in Cologne, Germany. If required, I'm fairly certain they could have dubbed the voices for their characters in German themselves.

Monster hunters, assemble! The Loch Ness Centre announced it's set to begin the biggest search in over 50 years for the mythical creature known as Nessie -- and volunteers are needed.

In partnership with research team Loch Ness Exploration, the tourist attraction is looking for volunteers to join in a search for the legendary monster.

Why has nobody ever asked the question, why hasn't any monster poop ever been found? Good grief, a serpent of that size would leave something behind that you really wouldn't want to tread in.

Scatalogical serpent waste is biodegradable, just ask Puff the Magic Dragon.

Casting about YouTube and caught an American Pacific coast vid wherein folks casting after salmon inside
coastline on water were surprised by Ocra-four or five huge monsters most probably also hunting salmon.
Absolutely fascinating display mammalian natural wonder.

I think it's just in some cases a sense of entitlement / belief that everyone else will stop for them. Of course, it also varies with culture. I see a lot better awareness of pedestrians in Beijing (where, as is the same across much of mainland Europe, a red traffic light means only "no straight on" rather than "stop") that way. Cars slow down if you're on a crossing. In the UK (where of course a red light means stop, so there's less expectation of 'shared space'), they often speed up if they see someone on a crossing. I've also seen way more people over here run red lights. The biggest danger I directly face on the road (I say road, half of them use the pavement interchangeably with the road) are cyclists who - despite specific lanes and lights - seem to think the rules of the road are optional for them. I actually had one of them scream at me a couple of weeks ago because I strode out when the green man came up, and he was forced to stop rather than run the red light. Don't get that in other places with a better cycling culture.

Bicycle riders are supposed to follow the same rules of the road. The motor vehicle code applies to bicycles when it comes to speed limits, yielding to pedestrians and emergency vehicles, and obeying traffic control devices. Around here, bicycle riders feel that they have the absolute right of way, motor vehicles and pedestrians should yield to bicycles, and traffic control devices are not applicable.

Easy. The "monsters" are actually aliens from other planets in our solar system, and they pack out their "trash".
