I was recently gifted a vintage Stetson hat and am wondering what year it may be. The price tag says $17.00. The serial # is B749681. It was purchased in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The information you have provided is unfortunately not very definitive. Maybe someone here recognizes the serial number format and can put it within certain dates, but without a photo inside and out I don’t think any of us are going to be able to give you anything specific.

I don’t know any vintage Stetsons with an original $17 price point, which makes me think either this was made in the last 40-50 years (and will probably not be extraordinary) or $17 is a resale price (in which case, that price doesn’t tell us anything).

Do you have photos? That is the best way to get more information.

As LC says, not enough info. If you read through the Lounge, there are several threads discussing age estimates of Stetsons.

If you can provide photos of all sweatband markings, the interior lining, and any tags we can take a stab at it. Also, look behind the sweatband for any labels; they're usually at the rear of the hat (affixed to the felt).

Hopefully these photos may help.
They certainly do - that’s an excellent hat probably from the 1950s!

Congratulations, you have been gifted a piece of history in what looks to be very good condition. That’s really fantastic.

Question: what makes you say this was priced at $17.00? Does it have that price tag under the leather sweat?

Yeah, most likely mid-50s or so. There might be some info on price points in the Nutria thread.

Fits pretty good. More room at the sides and a little tight from front to back. Is there a way to adjust the fit?

Sounds like you're a long oval. You can try the hat stretcher, but be very careful and do it a little at a time, if you do. You heve a very nice old hat there, and I'd hate to see you pop stitches or damage the sweatband.

Not sure where you are, but if you have a hatter nearby, you might give them a call.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1457839550...uid=JBfaEqmDSOi&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Here's a link to a Stetson Western for sale on Ebay. I'm posting this here because I am getting the exact same hat. I know it's a 1957 date but other than that would anyone know what model this would be? I've gone through all the Stockman/Miller pics but haven't been able to identify this model. Any help would be appreciated.

You have the same resources at your disposal as we do. It's not always possible, actually I would even say it's usually not possible to ID a specific hat model if it isn't branded as such.

I have used the resource here, in fact I've used all the resources here to try and find out the specific model name for this particular hat. Every hat pictured in all Miller/ Stockman catalogs since western hats were manufactured and sold have had a specific name given to it. Whether it's a Miller, Stetson, or whatever, they all had names associated to each specific one. If the knowledge is so extensive on this forum then someone who is an expert in Stetsons should be able to identify if this hat had a name. I find it hard to believe that Stetson would produce such a hat and not designate a name for it. I don't agree with your analogy.

It's a Royal Deluxe Stetson in size 7.

This site is full of many resources. What it isn't is the information desk at the NY Public Library.

Figure it out for yourself or just call it Jerry.
Let me say this to you. There's a right way and there's a wrong way to respond to someone's post. Regardless of what the question is. When you reply with a condescending attitude, that's another thing. I was always taught that there's no dumb question. Knowledge is based on asking. If the hat doesn't have a specific model name for it, then that's all you have to say. Period. You may be knowledgeable in hats but don't make others feel less. I joined this site to get information and knowledge, but when someone makes you feel like every question is going to be answered with an attitude whether it's because it's not posted correctly or whatever, then we have an issue. If your goal is to push people away, then you're on the right path.
