Short Sleeved Dress Shirts With a Suit?

Short sleeves in SD I've not experienced a big trend towards short sleeves in business attire here in SD. Now, a general trend away from business attire in total, sure.

Hat size - can you shrink a hat to fit?

Good luck on an Akurba I am foolhardy, but I'm also working with the lower end of the spectrum. I had good luck dampening the sweatband and placing the hat on a lampshade. The tricky part was finding an incandescent bulb in this age of green CFLs. Made the hat wearable.

A defining moment in American History

My two cents Samsa, first of all, 9/16/1982. I'm right there with ya. So is my twin brother. A great day. I would say the defining moment of the last century, and one particularly relevant today was the U.S. annexation of the Philippines at the end of the Spanish-American War in 1899. It...

    Making a hat...smaller?

Better advice to come I hope Well, I've done a bit of this myself. I read on another thread here that you can dampen the sweatband of the hat, and then place it on top of a lamp. The heat from the bulb will cause the leather band to shrink. It worked great for me. I'm sure if you did a...

    HELP: Seasons in Southern California

I wear straw all the time Lack of seasons is the hallmark of San Diego weather. You actually missed the coldest weather in years by a week, and that was a daytime high in the low 50s. At any rate, I wear straw "out of season," all the time; but then its never been said I'm the height of...

    Gunga Din

Another trip According to IMDB there are locations in Yuma AZ and the Imperial Valley of CA which are not too far from my home here in San Diego. So hopefully one day this fall, after some research, we're going to head out there and see if we can't find anything. So then I might have some...

    Gunga Din

My lady friend and I went on vacation last week and on the way home we stopped by senic Lone Pine California, one of the stand in locations for all things adventure and western. We went out and saw the site of the Gunga Din temple. I'm not exactly sure where it was out here, but the scenery...

    West Wing Final Episode

I remember awhile back that someone on here was looking for a brown or tan fedora with a black band. I was watching the West Wing last night and the gentleman who did "America the Beautiful" was wearing such a fedora. Any thoughts on that hat? I didn't get a good look at it since it was such...

    What is American Culture?

Its a good question! I asked this same question of my students the other day as part of their test. I didn't get one answer that was the same. Some said music, some said food (McDonalds, or the Cocacolonization of the world), and some said militarism. Well, they're not the high culture crowd...

George Carlin on Aging (and NO dirty words!)

Larry Miller I've seen Larry Miller do that exact same bit, sans the 10 ways to stay young. He did "the five stages of drinking" instead. Either way, I guess this bit is a standard in the best sense.

The BEST weather in your town!

Why exempt San Diego Why exempt San Diego? The problem here is that it can go from 40 degrees to 80 in the course of a morning. I'll grant you thats only in the winter, but it sure can make it hard to dress properly.
