Oh yea, for those of you who don't want to spend money on a new scale, you can take your panama hat to the post office and have it officially weighted by the government. this will make a good conversation at the post office too. they will be amazed.
I also use an electronic scale I got from Office Max or Office Depot years ago. I think they are pretty inexpensive now. I was shown by (incabox) three different ways to count the finess of the weave on a montecristi. the weave count, the X's count and the "carreras" count. there are more ways...
Ricardo, I have several montecristi finos and wanted to know the easiest way to count. the ebay (incabox) guy I bought most of my montecristis from told me to use this tool in conbanation with a long sewing needle. http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=63-1309...
I bought a montecristi grueso about a year ago from ebay (incabox). The seller called it santa fe style. I don't know if that is a the vintage name or just a modern name for this style of hat. I hope this info gives you a good starting point in your search.

I have decided to buy the following maybe it's a crazy thing to do, but I'm taking the chance. I've heard too many good things about Joe (incabox)
I will also buy one from panamabob and Brent Black in the near future.
Any words of encouragement or discouragement are wellcome...
