Hi,
does anyone know how much, a good Panama Hat, should weight?
I think it, the weight, change with the finest weaves.Certanly it changes with the style, the brims...
If anyone answer me, please, let me know if the weight is with or without liner and sweatband.
If the weight is in gr, ounces or other.
Thanks in advance.

Bob,
i don't understand where have i to count the paja. On the crown or on the brim. I've counted 22x24 weaves along an inch (i read to do so)
24 on the vertical, 22 on the orrizontal. I count them on the vertical piece of the crown.

Ok Bob,
it's what i 've done.
Horizzontal 22, vertical 24.
I've done this, and the cuenta ,for me, is 528. Is it correct?
I think yes it is.

Riccardo.

The vertical doesn't sound correct. If you have 22 horizontal then generally I'd expect 16-20 on the vertical.

For example, the hat I have here is 24X20 in most places. The vertical, by nature of the weave, should be close, but never over the horizontal. My experiences only.

Ok Bob,
i'll go to do the measurements better. I've read that the best way is to digitally with a camera a pics of the straw with a tape...it's true. To count the weaves is tedious and difficult, for me, i do it with a lens in one hand and the tape in the other.
I'll post it later.

Here is sunday, 9,41 AM.
Good sunday to everyone!

See you Bob, thanks.

Riccardo.

Maybe your hat is an exception.

I won't say anymore until I see a photo so I don't mis-speak.

Horizontal and vertical counts have been different 100% of the time on the hats I've had...numbering near 8,000.

Ricardo, I have several montecristi finos and wanted to know the easiest way to count. the ebay (incabox) guy I bought most of my montecristis from told me to use this tool in conbanation with a long sewing needle. http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog_name=CTLG&product_id=63-1309 Use the opposite end of the needle to hold your count as you count the "X's" vertically and then horizontaly. use this technique, it makes your wpsi counting a lot easier. just make sure not to use the sharp end of the needle to hold your count, use the other end. If you can't find this tool in Italy I'm sure one of us here at the FL can help you out. Radio Shack is everywhere in the USA :cheers1:
