    Actually if you look at catalogs from the 1920s through the 50s you will see that sheer sotton and cotton sateen was very acceptale for afternoon dresses and out on hte town wear. Sheer cotton makes a wonderful afternoon dress fro summer when one wishes to be cool and pretty! Samantha
