Yes, this was an inexpensive hat. Not vintage. As I pointed out above, it was 55 euro, shipped from Amazon. Seems as if the price was about right, or a bit low.

Is it a sign of quality, or the opposite? It was just pointed out to me by Mr. Enzo that the hatband says "Montecristi" — does that seem accurate, judging from the photo? (I'd assumed Cuenca at this price.)

Right. I promised a photo of the Equal Earth, now adorned with a Borsalino ribbon. I think it worked out well. Of course the crown doesn't seem quite as tall, but I still like the shape a lot.

Well, I'm having fun. I cannibalized an old Borsalino Peluche (because I don't live north of the Arctic circle, and never have reason to wear a thick furry fedora); the ribbon's complex and gorgeous, with a three-ring bow, so I've transferred it to the Panama. Pictures to follow. Question...

Just how damaging is rain to a Panama hat? I was assuming (hoping) that if you let it dry properly, it would be fine. Not the case?
