I don't have one but I'll join this thread for sure. I'd really like to see some photos of this lid.

I've never worn a homburg style but I'm sold on Akubra value and it makes me curious.

I somewhat don't think that the Akubra is a typical Homburg.
From what I've read here, a Homburg usually is a stiff hat, and the Akubra comes with an open crown and therefore should be rather soft.

I have several Homburgs, and they are all rather soft. One is as pliable as a vintage Borsalino. Could you perhaps be thinking of a bowler (derby) which is indeeed a HARD hat? :)

Hey MacFly...

I was wondering the same thing...Akubra Homburg.

Asked about it in the "Homburg" thread with no bites.

Guess I'm an Akubra junkie...and while I appreciate the link posted by OddSteve, I only saw one non-stock pic. I find that the the pics from gentlemen that have the hats in real life are a better gauge of reality than the marketing pics.

So, I hope someone posts...or, truth be told, is there an aversion to the Akubra Homburg? If so, please advise.

Thanks in advance...

thanks for the link...
Goose, i know what you mean! i've become an akubra addict. i had a riverina i bought around 1993 as my first 'real' hat but didnt really know enough about sizing so it is too small. over the last year i got back into hats and have ordered 3. i have to wear black tie every now and then and though it would be cool to dress it up with a homburg and the akubra looks a little different from others i have seen. but its impossible to see with that one pic from hats direct and the link mentioned above has a pic that is pretty much a birds eye view of the hat which doesnt do too much for a sense of how it really looks.
please someone post if you have one!

I agree that in general a Homburg should be a softer felt, able to be bashed. The brim should remain up not snapped, of course, but be amenable to stylistic swooping of a dashing nature.

Anyway, I just wanted to suggest the Christy's Homburg as an alternative. I haven't seen either the Akubra or Christy's, but they are at about the same price point and I believe it's established that Christy's felts tend to be a bit softer. There's a thread on the Christy's homburg by LordBest:
http://thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=36598

It would be great to see a comparison between the Akubra and the Christy's, here it is about 2/3 of the way down the fur felt page at Hornets:

Hey JT,

that's interesting to read, as I've always thought that a Homburg was as stiff as a bowler. But then again, the only time I ever held one in my hands was when I was five years old or so... seemed pretty hard to me back then :D

Yeah MacFly...odd, to me, myself, and Irene anyway, that none of the hataholics here have posted about the Akubra Homburg.

I'm interested in any comments from an owner or someone that has seen one in real life.

Guessing that since I took a gamble on the Hampton (which doesn't work for me) that I should bite the bullet and get one.

Stay tuned MacFly...it's that or a CEO coming next.

I must suffer so that others may learn... ;)

No worries Jec...that's just the kind of hat brother I am ;)

Checked with HD...they have a Homburg in my size ready to ship.

But, I'm REALLY concerned that I won't be able to pull it off with my mug.
Maybe I should just go with a Federation IV Moonstone for suit day. (???)

Comments, opinions, cash...all welcome.

I've voting for a CEO in cruiser grey...
Ya know GTDean...that may be a decent thought. Am concerned about the CEO taper near the crown.
Want something I can wear with a suit. And while I don't wear those that often, maybe a CEO would be better for everyday wear. But don't want a taper that my noggin pushes out.
Guess I'll look for pics.

Here's the concern, I have a fat face (or as Miller's politely calls it, a "Deep Full" face http://www.millerhats.com/hatcare_index/hatfaces.html).
Like a Homburg, I always wanted a Hampton...got one, and it doesn't work for me. I know the Homburg has a wider brim than the Hampton... 12mm or 0.47 inches more, but that may be taken up by the curl).

Oh, what to do for picture day...what to do? :eusa_doh: :eusa_doh:

Goose, Winston Churchill had a deep full face as well and he pulled off the homburg quite well. I have three now and love to wear them out to dressier occasions. They seem to dress down a bit with side dents, if you want. Go for it! :cool2:

My Akubra Homburg arrived today.

Here's an "out of Homburg uniform" pic so you get the image. Figured it's better than waiting a day or two for me to get a suit pic up Wanted to share for those that wondered about the Akubra and for me to get opinions.
Hell, why should I bother putting on a suit if y'all think it's dorky to begin with?

It's a nice hat. I am surprised that I like it as much as I do. And, even more surprised that Mrs. Goose. REALLY likes it too.

But what do we know? It's my first. So, I'm open for the truth. I know about the shirt I'm wearing...asking about my mug/head with this hat.

Looking for comments from you expert HOMBURGer Helpers.
Think it works for me?

Thank you in advance...
