Looks like you've got a great start to your collection. Is that a very high-crowned number with a shallow bash or is the ribbon narrower than I'm thinking it is?
My most recent win was a Knox twenty and I must say they're beautiful hats. Wear it proudly.

We usually head over to the in-laws for Christmas dinner, and afterwards some type of game is usually brought out. Usually, it's Trivial Pursuit, but first Christmas I played it at their place, I ended up wiping the floor with everybody, six pies to two at the most, thus earning the wrath of my...
What's in a name?
My name is partly in keeping with a family tradition, and partly a concession made to my mother by my father. Y'see, the firstborn males of my father's side of the family for who knows how long had been named Walter _____ Shea, ie my father Walter Grant and his father Walter...
Bravo!
An excellent pairing of cap and man. :eusa_clap
I wonder if that kind of cap would look good on me... hmm... Maybe I'll pick up a vintage model for a test drive before investing in one like this.
My wife'll be thrilled. She feels I don't need another excuse to spend money...
Last Rememberance Day, I was shopping for groceries when they announced the minute of silence. I was wearing a baseball cap at the time, but naturally it came off. During the minute, another fellow, hat firmly on fat head, wandered up the aisle, and I glared very pointedly at him. He just...
Ah-well-a-well-a-well-a....
Just a portmanteau of "canuck" and "knucklehead".
The former is because sometimes I like to go oot furra few beer an' some bacon, eh? Oh - I also wrestle bull moose for fun, just got my dogsled license, I bleed maple syrup and, last, but not least, my...
For me, one of the most relaxing things I can do is go out on the balcony with a pipe and a book and tune the world out for a couple of hours.
Everything about pipesmoking either forces me to slow down or is relaxing in and of itself. The second I open the pouch of burley/cavendish blend and...
Managed to find my measuring tape quickly enough to post this as an edit. Just measured, and it's 2" either from the base of the ribbon or from the sweatband out to the edge. Unless I'm doing it wrong... It's just a straight measurement from point A to point B, korrekt? Don't need to add...
Excellent!
You picked the perfect weekend for this thread. It just so happens that we're heading to our annual friends' Christmas party and I think I will arrive in style this year.
-Mike
Ok, one of my purchases from OFAS arrived today: the Dobbs that looked like an open crown. Sadly, that was not the case. Someone had just popped out the bash; I could clearly see the front pinch marks. Still, I did a quick bash and popped it on for looks, and although it's a bit snug, I think...
Hm.
I paid slightly more than 26 bucks (shipping included) for a box like that...
...with a hat inside it. Which, by the way, should be arriving today. Hooray!
Didn't realize how common those boxes were, but now I know not to trust something like this.
This may be a bit unnecessary to say, but there sits atop your head another masterpiece by Mr. Fawcett. Love the colour, love the crown, love everything about it.
I'm so green that Ed Begley Jr. automatically approves of me.
Congrats!
-Mike
Oh wow.
There aren't many things that make me actually laugh out loud, but that was one of them, Blackhorse. lol Thanks for making my morning. :eusa_clap
Yes, I admit it. I'm a sucker for the well excecuted pun. It's like they say: A good pun is its own reword.
Ok. *I'll* stop...
Currently reading Farewell, My Lovely by Raymond Chandler.
That Fire in the Grove sounds as fascinating as it does appalling.
I have no idea what I'll read next, but I've assembled a few possibilities from reading over this thread.
-Mike
Well, I've already jumped in with both feet in the Hats thread, but I thought I would introduce myself here, too.
My name is Mike, and for a lot of my life I've had at least a casual relationship with things vintage. The roman noir, live theatre, classic film, Marx Bros. comedy, and on and...
Yup, I have a full-blown case of Fedora Acquisition Disorder.
Just won these two vintage specimens:

Welcome!
As an ex-Calgarian myself (not by choice, but that's a different story.) I understand the frustration of seeing nothing but western hats in the stores. Ah well. You're in good hands with RBH and the rest. It's amazing how much I've learned since lurking here.
Anyway...
Fine looking hats, adamgottschalk and spiridon both! I suppose I should count myself in with the stingy crowd, too, as my only hat's brim is 2". I'm not sure I could pull off a brim much wider than that; I think it would make my head look tiny.
That 1" extra-stingy (miserly?) is...
Wow. I'm assuming that a Portis is an excellent find in and of itself, and the peach colour just adds to the "Woo-hoo!" factor.
Peach. Who'da thunk?
I agree that it's great to find something other than the standard brown/grey. Kudos on an awesome find. I've definitely got to get down...
