    Diamond point bow ties

Tom: Thanks for the tips. I've just tried doing what you said, tying it so that the diamond points only stick out a little bit or not really at all. That helps my bow not to look too big!

    Diamond point bow ties

How does the general rule about bow ties not being wider than your collar / face apply to diamond point bows? Is it okay if the points go out further like here: http://www.stangeberlin-onlineshop.de/images/2075689ce30757009.jpg ...Or in the third picture down here...

Are you ever tired of explaining why you live or dress the way you do?

Well, I guess compared to California / Arizona they probably do.... Business casual has spread over here but not quite to the level of California. And you do run into people in vintage clothing, but mostly people over 50. The occassional hobo in an (old) suit and tie can still be seen around...

    Panamas blocked in Ecuador

Interestingly, according to Brent Black's site, this is blocked in Panama (Cuenca), but is still really good...

    Panamas blocked in Ecuador

T Jones, Thanks for your contributions as well. The link you gave also re-affirms that hats blocked in Panama aren't near as good as US blocked ones. Did you start off with the hat in your Avatar for under $100 and then jump to Brent Black? That sounds like it could be a reasonable idea too...

    Panamas blocked in Ecuador

Nik / Rabbit: Thanks for the details and the pictures. Very enlightening. While I can see the difference between the hats when looking closely at them side by side, I doubt I or anyone I normally run into would pick up on exactly how fine the hat is just by seeing it on someone's head on the...

    Tie clips falling off

    I'm thinking of this: http://www.ebay.de/itm/251210119291?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Are you ever tired of explaining why you live or dress the way you do?

True... being a tourist yourself can also be ...interesting. The last time I was in the states I was often asked if everybody in Europe still dresses so old-fashioned or why people dress up so much "over there." Actually, however, I did get a lot of positive comments in the states. On the whole...

Are you ever tired of explaining why you live or dress the way you do?

I've gotten questions and comments occassionally. Most people don't say anything, but there are a couple people I run into from time to time who seem to find my "old-fashioned" clothing style irritating and always need to make some kind of snide remark. The worst is going downtown on a summer...

    Tie clips falling off

I’m thinking of getting a tie clip with a security chain that hooks to a shirt button. The security chain sounds good because I wouldn’t worry about losing the clip. On the other hand, this also makes me wonder how much of a problem this is. I mean, do slip-on tie clips have a tendency to...

    Panamas blocked in Ecuador

Obviously with around $260 - 16 weaves per inch we're not talking about the highest end. I'm thinking a getting a first, or "starter" Panama here and if I get a more expensive one later I'll appreciate the difference more. Is this reasonable or is a 16 weave hat going to look bad with a suit?

    Panamas blocked in Ecuador

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like a Panama blocked in Ecuador isn't such a good idea. I think I'll try out Panama Bob's "classic" blocked in the US. The info on the shaped wooden blocks is interesting... do they not use these in Ecuador at all? For around $260 I could get a Panama blocked...

    Panamas blocked in Ecuador

Hello guys, I'm a first time poster, but have already lurked around for a while (already bought two Akubras thanks to discussions here - so thanks!). Anyway, I'd like to get my first real Panama hat, and would like to be able to wear it with a suit. It seems like a Montechristi would...
