I guess we should have guessed a Doctor by the handwriting? lol :eusa_doh: I've been off line for a long time now... life has a way of doing that sometimes. I'm glad to find out that someone finally found out who she was (THANKS VB!!!! :eusa_clap ) and confirmed that she had an amazing...

    Girdles, Corsets, and Underpinnings

I got my first corset. Way cool. Only thing is, the lace that it came with kind of frayed. So now I'm looking to find something to use to lace up my corset. What would you recommend? Thanks! Oh! And how much lacing should I get (in length). TIA

Thanks! I'll have to look for them, maybe even at the Jean-Coutu Pharmacy... Do they still carry home-perm kits? Not that I want one, I just figure if they still exist I may have a chance at finding them around...

    Show us your hair do's....

You know, I don't think you're too far off. :eusa_clap Certainly is better than I could do. :( Notice that her face is a longer shape than yours. That could be why it doesn't look "right". Either way you did a great job and I wish I could do the same. :eusa_doh:

Can anyone identify the woman in this 1930s photo?

Ok, so I stand corrected. :o There are people who are named Mariesh. It is a very ethnic name though - mostly from the far east such as Phillipines and Korea - and usually male from what I have seen although there are females named Mariesh. Having been shown that there were people with the...

Can anyone identify the woman in this 1930s photo?

Photographer Alda Jourdan. Probably a woman. I've used my "paint" program to enlarge the signature. The first letter is unarguably a D. Beyond that, I can clearly see Mari. The following letter I say is an "e" looks like the "e" in love and friendship (although in latter the "e" is open...

Can anyone identify the woman in this 1930s photo?

I have been staring at that signature for days now, trying to figure out where I recognize her from. I can see her moving and I can almost hear her voice! :p Somebody... Please! Help me figure out who this lady is... Even my kids are trying to figure it out. It is now a household obsession...

Can anyone identify the woman in this 1930s photo?

It could be, if so it could also support my french theory... Jourdan is a French (from France) family name, and Alda is a woman's name (the french equivelent to Gertrude in english... old and certainly generational). I keep forgeting that because it is such a rare and old name.:eusa_doh: lol

Can anyone identify the woman in this 1930s photo?

There is also a photographer Alda Jourdan and his brother(?) Albert from France in the 1930's... "SOCIETE FRANCAISE DE PHOTOGRAPHIE numéro 9 paru le 01/09/1935 Contenu : ALBERT ET ALDA JOURDAN - STE FAGIN - G. MAILLET - A. CHARRIOU ET S. VALLETTE - SCHEBERSTOW."

Can anyone identify the woman in this 1930s photo?

Could she be of french descent? D. could be for Dame. Mariam (although I tend to lean more towards Marie) is used in french, and Marie would have been very popular at the time as a first name for a girl back in the day (shoot, even 50 years ago everyone was named Marie, Joseph or Jean and...

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

First of all- I'm not familiar w/ this machine first hand, I'm just trying to narrow down what could be wrong w/ it. That's ok, it's an old machine that does the basics 'cause I don't do much sewing... I was better in the kitchen part of home ec and had very little patience for sewing... I...

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

You've already tried to fix the tension? The tension on top, the tension below, or both? Umm, I guess the top one, how do I fix tension below? I just fixed the tension at the knob above the needle, you know, where you thread the needle before it goes in the up and down arm... (This...

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

Newby sewing question... I have a vintage sewing machine that does the basics, straight line, zig-zag and hems. It's a Singer Stylist 570 if I recall correctly. Heavy like the dickens, and has a wooden carrying case. My experience is basic at best.[huh] So here is my situation.... I'm...

    Show us your hair do's....

My guess is that she has a number of bobby pins holding the foundation of the pin curl, then from what I can see some discretly placed hairpins to hold the air down in the curl.

I went and looked... Your auctions are absolutely lovely. Unfortunately, with four kids running around my home (all of them my own...) my waist size is significantly larger. :( Mind you although I love your clothes, I don't think I'd change a thing... :D ;)
