3-piece... DB jacket with DC waistcoat. Too much or awesome?

Thanks for the photo. I do like the look of the gentleman on the far right. I should have a DB odd waistcoat coming in soon. My main concern is whether or not it will be too much fabric that it cause problems, so I may wait until they arrive and then decide.

3-piece... DB jacket with DC waistcoat. Too much or awesome?

It was very common in the 30's. All my vintage 30's DB suits have (single-breasted) waistcoats. I am also thinking I could order DB waistcoats anyway, and just wear them as odd waistcoats if I think it's too much. Hmm...

3-piece... DB jacket with DC waistcoat. Too much or awesome?

I have two double-breasted suits, and I've decided I want to get two matching waistcoats ordered for them in the same fabric. At the same time I've been longing for some double-breasted waistcoats. I love how they look in a three-piece, but most of the time, I see them with single-breasted...

    Adding turnback cuffs?

(Cross-posted from Outerwear, where I received no replies, hoping there will be some more people with tailoring experience in here...:)) : Hey all, I recently acquired a nice, heavyweight 100% cashmere overcoat. Double-breasted, with peak lapels, just how I like it. It fits perfectly...

Indy, any update on these ties? I'm burning to order one, especially with the 31st so soon...

    Adding turnback cuffs?

Hey all, I recently acquired a nice, heavyweight 100% cashmere overcoat. Double-breasted, with peak lapels, just how I like it. It fits perfectly everywhere except the sleeves. The sleeves come down to my fingertips. I'd like to shorten the sleeves by giving the turnback cuffs, but I'm...

    Pulling off a green suit

Note the position of the chest pocket. The pictures were taken on my MacBook's camera, so everything is mirrored.

I have a clue, but want opinions

I'd throw the color in with a burgundy tie and nice pocket square rather than worry so much about the shoes. A good dark burgundy cap toe would work well too, though, I think.

How large can I go? (Suit Sizes pre-tailor)

Stick to a 40S. If you *actual* chest measurement is 40", a 38 will be too small. Look for 18 - 18.5" shoulders instead (just a guess... have someone measure you're own shoulders if you can.) If a 40S still feels roomy, it's generally easier to take things in/shorten them than to take them...

    Pulling off a green suit

Here's the ensemble as I wore it the other day: Details: I recently bought this paisley Corneliani tie. I loved it in the pictures and thought it had a black background, but when it came, I found it was blue on a kind of dark green. I was disappointed at first, until I found it works...

    Pulling off a green suit

I finally got to this point the other day. And I'm not even an every-day hat wearer. More to the topic, I wore a green-gray DB the other day and no one noticed anything out-of-the-ordinary (given that I'm usually wearing some kind of sport coat or suit). I was skeptical as well, but it...

Is this tie too formal for everyday wear?

Depends if it's as shiny as the first picture suggests or if that's just the flash. If not, I'd certainly wear it for every day.

Suits for the Short of Stature.

Being 5' 6" myself, I take it from the Duke and wear whatever I want. Just feel comfortable and appear confident. 2-button vs. 3-button or SB vs. DB doesn't really make much of a difference. I wear all four proudly. With cuffs even. As always, just make sure it fits. :)

    Carnation in lapel?

Aye, I never put a flower in my lapel on my own, but whenever I pick flowers for a young lady, I somehow always end up with one in my lapel :)

    girls in guy's garb

I was just exploring the new collections on Ralph Lauren's site and came across these pictures that immediately reminded me of this thread: Notice the lady on the far right :) Very "man-tailored", Golden Era-inspired.

    John Dillinger's Tie

I've been wanting this tie since I saw it as well! Please someone find out where such a tie can be had! Very interesting about possible Native American origins. I'm Zuni myself (New Mexico tribe) and have never heard of tribes weaving ties. Though those colors are very familiar now that you...

The Demise of the Summer Suit

Doran, you convinced me. Just ordered the navy one as well. If I like it, I'll probably spring for the tan one if it's still around in my size when the first one gets here. Will post my own pictures when it comes. Did your coat need much tailoring, or did it fit pretty well out of the box?
