When I was a kidlette in the 60's I wanted to be Marlo Thomas from "That Girl." I think it was the hair, eyelashes and eyeliner!

Back in the late 80's when I was in my early 20's I used to wear the cat eye liner and my hair in a shoulder length flipped out bob with the crown teezed up in a little bit of a boufant and people used to tell me all the time that I looked like Marlo Thomas. Funny because I was not trying to look like anyone or any particular era I just liked how it looked.

Don't forget Marianne and Ginger from Gilligan's Island (the show started in 1964), even though they were stuck on that island they still had thier hair and make up done everyday.

I bet you looked FAB with your own Marlo look!! And here's another similarity - my nickname in my pre-teen years was "cecil" because my real name is Cecilia. But everyone calls me Inky now in real life too.

Woah! Crazy! Cecilia is a great name. My name is really Cecil but when people assume it's short for Cecilia and call me that, I don't bother to correct them. lol

I found some helpful links to achieve the Mad Men look (early sixties):

(I think I'm gonna get the red lipstick they use on her... such a nice colour!)

Voilà!

Hmm...from all I've seen, I guess I would like some elements of 60s style more than I initially thought I would because I really only knew about the mid and late 60s which I quite honestly, don't care much for. I quite like the early 60s 60-63. aprox. I tend to take my hair inpiration from some of the early films and notice how the younger actresses have been styled. Natalie Wood had a simple snail bun in one film and I really liked that.

My mother who was very photogenic, was an airhostess in the late 60s-70s. They were still very strict about hair, styling and uniform back then. The standards were very high. Hair still had to be above collar length, tidy, they were taught grooming, make-up application, and where to buy footwear, etc. Nothing outlandish which the decade's stewardess' have been associated with. Just chic.

History Channel or one of the Discovery channels had a documentary about aihostesses of that time.

http://www.uniformfreak.com/1sas.html I've seen her in the top three uniforms. I think the first photo I saw of her was in that light blue uniform from summer 67-83 but the winter uniform from 71-83 is what's stuck in my mind.

I read an article about make up used in Mad Men and the artist said she
You won’t see any blue-ish lipsticks on the show.
"Because of the fluorescent lights in Sterling Cooper, I didn’t use any lipsticks or nail polish colors that had blue undertones. They popped out too much on film. I wanted everyone to look natural. I stuck to true reds, true pinks, and true corals."

What is an example of a true red or pink nail polish?
