1950s/1960s "WORSTED-TEX" TWILL WORSTED OVERCOAT

In "Time Machine" condition!​

This is truly beautiful, and extraordinaily rare in this condition--if it was a 42L it most certainly wouldn't be here, but would be staying with me!

Although this coat likely dates from the late 1950s to the early 1960s, it is in perfect condition--there are even some basting threads still intact inside the right-hand front pocket, holding the interior ticket pocket partly shut! I suspect that this has never been worn.
And when this was new this was a seriously beautiful and expensive coat.

I posted on my FB page WaterhollowTweed about Daroff and Sons of Philadelphia, the company that made "Worsted-tex" garments as their top of the line offerings. Worsted-tex was named after the worsted wool from which they were made; one of their lines was the "Ivy League Model", which shows where they market was!

This coat does full justice to the company that made the 3/2 suits that Cary Grant wore in *North by Northwest* (1959).

It is, first, cut from a beautiful heavier-weight worsted woolen cloth in a classic black and white twill. It is also fully lined with a plaid woolen lining with a grey base with red and blue overchecking; this is covered in the shoulders, upper back, and arms with bemberg lining. The coat also features a vertical deep interior pocket for your wallet.

The coat is a classic single-breasted topcoat. It features a three button front with a beautiful curve to the lapel.

It is also packed with exquisite features which showcase its quality. It has two deep lower flapped patch pockets; the flaps and the pockets themselves all feature lapped edging. The right-hand pocket also features an interior ticket pocket; the basting threads here are still partially intact.

The sleeves also feature lapped seams; they also have ornamental turn-back cuffs that are cut at a slight angle to render them exceptionally elegant.

The coat has a single center hook vent.

This coat was originally sold by Haveson's of Trenton. In the 1950s and early 1960s Trenton was socially superior to the sleepy country town of Princeton, and Haveson's was THE clothing store; it stocked jackets and suits from G G G (later Martin Greenfield) as well as other top-flight makers--such as Worsted-tex!

This coat was Union Made in Philadelphia before 1968. It likely dates from the early 1960s or late 1950s; a more precise dating is impossible as the Union label (which is in perfect condition!) has been so tightly sewn into the interior pocket that I cannot see if there is the post-1962 "R" on it or not.

This coat is in spectacular condition--I suspect that it was never worn. As such, it is one of the best available examples of a late 1950s/early 1960s twill topcoat available today.
