Hello to all - what a refreshing group!
I have already gleaned a lot of good info and great vibe from perusing the Lounge - I laud the creators and moderators of such labors of love - they deserve the highest kudos for this level of class and dedication. Until I stumbled into the lounge, I thought I was virtually alone in the pursuit and practice of wearing traditional comfort wear. I know that in my area, the fedora certainly turns heads.
I recently went to the clean pate as a result of accelerated baldness, and at the urging of my FSO, began trying different hat styles. Ballcaps, though verbally descriptive, look absolutely moronic on me. I happened to buy a Henschel hemp fedora at a touristy gift shop out of desperation and sunblocking necessity, and not only found it very cool and comfortable, but I got so many compliments on the "new look", that I began seeking out more sophisticated, preferably vintage, fedoras.
Anyway, the bug has bitten and I now have 3 vintage Borsalinos (one for sale - just a bit small), a Dobbs Golden Coach (Jet or Daily???) whose age I am still unsure about, and several nondescript functional fedoras (fedorae?). Some I would like to ask help identifying in more detail with the help of the loungers.
I followed the thread about dating Borso's, and immediately stalled on the 'first two digits are the year of mfg', since mine was purchased in Montreal, with the store imprint, but with the first 2 digits of the 'serial number' being "43". Hmmm - a Mussolini care package? I think not!
I do not currently have an URL/FTP for posting, so if anyone would like to assist me in ID'ing the hats, please let me know. Is it OK to post photos using the 'Insert image' on the taskbar of the posting page?
Thanks again to all for providing and supporting a wonderful and unique forum.
