Argyle sox: "introduced" to US 1949?

Brooks Brothers recently claimed in ads that they had introduced argyle sox to the US market in 1949. (US-made ones at least. Before this they'd been made in Scotland.)

My question is, were they worn here any earlier? I like them a lot and have been putting them with '30s-early '40s outfits for awhile. Is this inauthentic?

i have no idea. Probably Brook's Brothers mean they were the only company physically making the socks in the USA in 1949, and were the first to do so.

Argyles are clearly afvertised all over the place in Esquire from the 1930's.
