Okay, in this thread you can see my cowboy hat
with a Boss Raw Edge:

You can also see Douglas' Boss Raw Edge here:

http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=10585

I believe Marc posted one a while back, but the photos
are no longer available.

Does anyone know more about this edge? Anyone have a
Boss Raw Edge Stetson they'd like to post? Advertisements
from the time offering the Boss Raw Edge? Mostly I'd like to
figure out when they were made.

The only thing I've found on Google is a bit from a Sax Rohmer
novel first serialized from November 1913 through June 1914:

"...for my gaze fell upon an excessively thin, keen-faced man
whose curiously wide-open eyes met mine smilingly,
whose gray suit spoke Stein-Bloch,
whose felt was a Boss raw-edge unmistakably
of a kind that only Philadelphia can produce".

I don't think my hat is that old, but maybe Douglas' is.

Post away!

Ya know... it might be worth asking Stetson what they know about their own hat. I'm sure we have a few people here who know but I'm curious to see if their customer service knows ANYTHING at all :p

I would be very interested in finding out who has one of these or why they seem to be scarce, where they were made and so forth.

Here are the photos again. (I sold this hat a while ago.) No lining, never had any. It's from about 1920 -- or possibly the late 'teens:

Thanks Marc

Now that's interesting. So the name doesn't refer to
the curled edge treatment. It was just Stetson's name
for a raw edge at the time.

I have a fuzzy black fedora with a very similar bow - we had guessed late '20s/early '30s, but possibly it's older?
