I never have had such a problem. I put the stuff in my hair and the longest I've ever been awake with it in was about 48 hours, and it was still good go to.

My hair is curly and thick, and the weather humid.

I too have thick curly hair and Brylcreem does not do so well to keep my hair in place or that shine. I have found a couple of different products that help with my hair type. One is Sportin' Waves and the other is krew Comb.

My son, on the other hand, has hair that seems ideal for using Brylcreem. So, I gave him the tube and said, "A little dab will do ya."

I've used it for 25 years, It controls my hair and gives it a bit of healthy shine, never had a problem getting girls to run their finger through my hair!

It takes me over a month to go through one tube, it truly is a “dab”. Its not meant to be grease or to really hold your hair in a “style” It just takes a normal parted man's haircut and keeps it from sticking up or waving about. Its too thin and light for many men's hair.

I usually only rinse my hair daily, I shampoo with head and shoulder about twice a week to really wash my scalp and prevent any kind of dandruff. But otherwise with Brylcream me hair stays clean and good looking, my scalp healthy, and it make my hair look a lot better than if it was without.

I personally don't even comb my hair. I can towel dry about 75% of the way, add Brylcream and just run my finger trough my hair, adjust my part, etc and I'm good to go.

No its not like having grease in your hair. I work in Iraq half the year, I wear a "dab" and go through one tube every 4-5 weeks. My hair does not get dirty at all.

As someone else stated I also use more when going out (2-3 times) and yes if you wear a hat you may need to use some water during the day after removing your hat to get your hair straight again. A lot of that comes from putting your hat on when your hair is not completely dry yet, and would happen without the Brylcream.

For reference I wear my hair within militray regs, on the long side, i.e. not on the collar and ears. Just a classic haircut that would look appropriate anytime in the last 100 years.

So my three year old son comes up to me the other day and we're talking. During the conversation I keep smelling something that reminds me of older gentleman from my youth in the 70's. So I start sniffing around the kiddo and it's the Brylcreem in his hair that I'm smelling. I've called him "old man" a few times since then, it seems to get laughs from him and adults.

For reference for people that haven'y used it. Unless you were REALLY putting a lot on, you will never even notice residue on your pillowcases, headboard, etc. It's really no relation to putting greases in your hair.

I use Brylcreem, or Tres Flores when I'm at work, or Vitalis. I have never had a problem with leaving stains on pillows, etc. I am not cocky about it however, I keep afghans on the back of the couch.

Dax Wave & Groom is very much like Murray's. I find it a little easier to comb through my hair, and has basically the same hold. I've also heard Sweet Georgie Brown blue can has about the same hold and smells really good. Still want to try it out though.

Sweet Georgia Brown in the blue can doesn't have the same hold as Murray's Superior. Murray's Superior is a heavy pomade, and SGB (blue) is more on the medium side. It's hold isn't as strong as Dax Wave & Groom either. But it is a good pomade for slick/wet hairstyles, or used with another medium or lighter pomade, where it will give it some extra hold.

One pomade that I've found to be like Murray's, but actually a lot heavier, would be S Curl. Big in the 90s, this stuff is thicker than Murray's. Which is something I never thought I'd see.

If you're looking for a pomade relatively similar to Brylcreem, look into Dax (purple can,) or Sweet Georgia Brown (also in a purple can.) Both are really light pomades, that wash out easily. Or if you want something like Brylcreem, but with some extra hold, check out Deluxe pomade. It looks a whole lot like a wax, but when you rub it into your palms, it melts (nicely) and coats your hair evenly. It's not overly greasy, but it will give you the wet look with some extra hold. (I gave the wrong recommendation to a lady on here, so I apologize.)

Brylcream is good stuff I used for about 3 years. I then discovered Layright, and it comes out a lot nicer. I do miss the smell of Brycream though it had that 1940s aroma to it.

I tried Brylcream a few times about a year and a half ago but everytime I took my hat off I had to comb my hair back to its proper style, so I gave up using it.

Then about three weeks ago I discovered that Brycream (as in the company) also make a gel which is advertised as having a "long lasting 24 hour hold". I tried that to give myself a side parting and it worked really well. I always wash my hair in the morning, apply the gel whilst it's still wet, and it's usually dry within half an hour. Once dry my hair feels natural but stays in place regardless of how many times I take my hat on or off.

I've got Groom & Clean on right now. Keeps the hair smooth and in place on the sides. Maybe I'll give Brylcream a try again, though, if I can find the original.

What do you guys think aobut DAX Short and Neat? I personally love it, though many people seem to hate it. It keeps my hair in place nicely, but I wouldn't use it when I do a pompadour or something like that. It also has a nice shine and the can lasts pretty long as you don't need so much of it. Also washes out pretty nicely, though everyone says that they needed to wash their hair like 6 times and there was still some left. I can wash my hair once with shampoo and it's all out...
Is it something about my hair that makes it wash out so easily?

I'm just curious, with this gel, is it comfortable enough to wear a hat with? A part of the reason I switched from L.A. Looks gel to Brylcreem was for better comfort, as I did not want my hair to be hard feeling. Does this cause that effect, or is it actually rather soft? Thank you.

Oh Dax Wave & Groom, that's a product I also use with Brylcreem, sometimes just itself. I used some today as a matter in fact, but instead of spreading it throughout my hair, I just used it for the front where I comb a quiff. For me at least, it's pretty sticky stuff, and not that soft, but great for the hold.
