:eek:fftopic:

My manager wears low rise jeans and bends over and gives everyone a nice view of her lacy black thong. It's really gross and somewhat unprofessional, particularly as she's in her 40s. Although I think she may be a bit of a chav at heart - perma tan, bleach blonde hair and a 'london' accent (like cockney but not quite as harsh). You should hear her talk in Italian (her husband is Italian) - I'd never heard Italian talked in a cockney accent before I met her!

On the subject of high rise pants - I love them. They're so comfortable because you don't feel the need to pull your jeans up every time you bend over. I hate having a bum crack in my face when someone else bends over :eusa_doh:

I was bartending and some guy asked me if my super cute 30's hat was a BRA, yes he asked if I had a bra on my head! I said yes and told him to stop staring at my bra, Hello, my eyes are down here!

Yesterday when I was in the mall, I walked into the store and one of the girls like...ran up to me and was like "This girl. I love her style" and gestured to me. She didn't directly talk to me though which was weird.

Then the girl she was talking to was like "You're lucky you could pull that off. I like your red lipstick, you're lucky you can pull that off. I could never pull that off."

And I wanted to say "You know, it takes effort. I have to pick what I wear carefully, just like anyone else. I can't just throw on something and be "I AM SO FASHION" so..." but I just said "Thanks!"

With the exception of the odd looks, Older women will come up and comment on How they wore the same kind of Stockings* seamed* and Hairstyles..... Beyond that I have been called a 1970's girl.... by a ignorant Hillbilly:) .... to whom I was Going to Take off my Leather Gloves and Slap his Face.... then I realized I'm a Lady!:)

i have tons of 70s-does-40s clothing. try watching "boogie nights" without the "ew 70s" bias and see all the similar styles!

but seriously? most people don't pay attention to historical style like we do. i got over people never knowing what decades stuff is from a long time ago. i think it's a bit unfair how harsh we can be about others' lack of knowledge or interest.

I actually enjoy some late 60s/early 70s dresses. In the summer, sometimes I just feel like letting my hair hang lose and undone and wearing a long peasanty sun dress. It doesn't help that I also think the 60s/70s has the best music :)

I've gotten a few comments, but nothing terrible. For a prom, I wanted my hair in a classic Jackie O bouffant, and the hair dresses kept remarking on how she never thought she'd style somebodies hair like this and blah blah blah.

I would rather dress timelessly classic than follow the various fads and trends. I wear a lot of modern clothing, but it always has a Golden Era undertone.

I still think the best compliment I ever received was from a male coworker when he said "You're too classy for that bullsh*t. Just look at how you dress!"

I got a good one

"Girl! You look like... what are them shoes?... are them 50s shoes?... No, I know, them are pinup shoes!"

Well, yes, they were red ankle strapped platforms...

I just loved it, as it was being delivered by a rather snappy dresser in her BATHROBE AND SLIPPERS - IN DOWNTOWN BERKELEY!!!

I got in my car and just sat there and giggled helplessly.

I am actually lol-ing! I think I know what you mean. I'm thinking of ladies who stand proudly, with a skirt stretched taut across their bellies and the waistband nestling under the bosom.

Some think I'm overclass and I'm not. I'm a socialist and feminist. But I can understand in a way how they are thinking. They think I'm conservative cause I'm old-fashioned. And some of the clothes are "classic" clothes like sailor coats or suits and those are often favored by the overclass. But I'm not comfortable with this and I don't know how I should avoid it. Have you got any advice?

M

Ha, I know exactly what you mean lol
There's this misconception that real socialists and feminist are supposed to look scruffy and anti-everything. I say sod it. It's only fun to surprise people and go against preconceived ideas and stereotypes.

miss 1929 that reminds me of the fella in the deco/modern store with the Teal Typewriter* well except his word choice was better!

I have a co-worker who I met on her first day on the job. I happened to be wearing my hair in victory rolls and it was October. she still mentions how great my Andrews Sisters halloween costume was. I just smile and nod. It's better than the other co-worker who likened it to Ernestine.

but my favorite comment was from a very nice young man who recently helped me move. He asked me what I store in all those hat boxes. I loved the shocked look on his face when I told him hats.

I got told by 2 lovely ladies about my age (35) at a car boot sale that I looked lovely... one of them then added "Were you a model (pauses) previously?"
So she buggered up the compliment by making me feel old!

A really pretty blonde american woman in a vintage skirt rushed up to me in the supermarket the other night all excitedly telling me "I never see anyone interesting in Sainsbury's and you look so cute!"

Last weekend my friend and I went to function for the historical society. We were both in full vintage (no photos DUH!) But there were some older ladies there that were interested in us. One lady commented on my shoes. It was so nice to hear someone else know that I was wearing spectators.

I'm training to be a primary school teacher (I think that's elementary for everyone in the USA!) and recently I have been working in a school. Both the teachers and pupils have been fascinated by the way I dress and do my hair and I've had so many lovely compliments from the little girls. This led them to asking me to do a lesson on how to do hair rolls! Seeing girls from 6-11 with hair rolls was so cute, I wish I could post the photos, but I'm not allowed.
:eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Aaawwwww How cute would that be?

Quite a few years ago one of my work colleagues criticised the tie I was wearing which I admit was quite loud. She wasn't being nasty, just joking a bit.

I said "It shows a bit of individuality, Margaret, and you can't handle that." :p

This left her speechless, I mean, she was without speech.

The issue is that people aren't comfortable with people being individual, confirmity is the norm in most societies. For some reason people feel the need to tear others down who they see as different to themselves.

I haven't really gotten comments on my outfits, more on my makeup, I have been told a bunch of time by both men and women that they loved the red lipstick and that it was refreshing too see amongst the normal pink lipgloss that is so popular.

I have also recieved quite a few winks when I have been vintagy lol

99% of the time I get lovely comments from the ladies - they say that I look lovely! Very pleasing, when you've spent 2 hours doing your hair and make up. There's the occassional bitchy groups of teenage girls who whisper and give me dirty looks. I just tell myself that they're jealous!

The other night when I was wearing seemed stockings, a guy at my swing dancing group kept telling me that my seems weren't straight. He thought it was really funny, and I laughed along politely, but heck, when was the last time he wore seemed stockings whilst doing the lindyhop!? Keeping those bad boys straight is not easy!
