Here is a listing including a telling answer to a question

Joke?

New Borsalino Rodolfo Fedora Hat/ "Borsalino Challenge"
Worst quality most over priced hat in the universe! Item

number: 180214725518

Borsalino hats are made in Italy by the oldest Italian hat

maker. These hats are very pretty but over priced very

poorest quality and workmanship fur felt hats. If you

require the finest hats in the world we make them see our

custom hand made hat auctions.

Borsalino Rodolfo
100% Poorest quality fur felt construction if you can call

this junk felt.
This is the Grand Daddy of all the Borsalino's and Grand dad

was one sorry guy based on this junk!
This hat has a very soft feel due to the felt being the

lowest quality of any commercial hat available today.
The brim is larger than it is on the other Borsalino fur

felt hats that we offer (3 inch brim).
It is trimmed with a skimpy almost see through 12 Ligne

black grosgrain band again of questionable quality about

like my wife ties up Christmas gifts with.
It has a low-crown about 4" in height and a pinched front
It has the classic fedora shape with a pinch in the crown, a

satin lining that is so thin you can see through it and is

about a very poor 100 thread count indicating the pure junk

this hat is.
The hat has a split cow hide leather sweatband instead of a

quality roan leather as in a good hat and a far cry for a

kangaroo sweat band backed with archival linen and a real

oil silk of a great hat.
Adds a touch of class to the well-dressed or casual

gentleman till it gets wet first time then turns to a fuzz

ball.
In my less than humble opinion and 34 years as a custom hand

made hatter, its an over priced less than adequate hat for

the money but you decide for your self if you want one!!
I can make you a custom hand made hat in 100 times the

quality and workmanship to your exact specifications .

Please see our custom handmade hat auctions or Click here to

We are currently after years of development also launching

the Borsalino Challenge after years of R&D. If you require

the finest semi custom/ production hats in the universe

watch our other auctions as we launch this hat line as of

Jan 1. 2008

Q: if this hat is such a piece of junk, why do you have a

reserve on it? Feb-17-08
A: To insure, Morons, Fedora Lounge Members, effiminates,

folks with lower than 100% positive ratings, drunks, fools

and tighwads do not buy it and then blame thier misfortune

on me. Does any or all the above descriptions sound like

anyone you see in the mirror? I am really sorry for your

discontented life and miserable existence but I really

belive a good hat and a job that allows you to pay for it

would help you feel a lot better about every thing. Here is

hoping you quit supporting entitlement programs and come to

the middle and wish for a hand up instead of a hand out.

Think about it.

If it is a joke, it's a really poor one. If it's not, I feel really sorry for this guy because he must have a miserable life being so angry and hateful toward so many people all the time.

Somebody needs to introduce him to the fact that some of our members are probably more successful professionals than he is.

it's like, "Dude, get over yourself already!"

(He apparently doesn't recognize the difference between "then" and "now"... and has been added to my personal "Business Blacklist".)

Ohhhh... now I get it... HE'S the joke!

Well known "greatest hatter in the world". Makes nice hats, certainly, but a little too pushy and pretentious for my money.

I believe he also claimed at one point that vintage (1930s) Borsalinos were "junk". Any hatter worth his salt wouldn't be so foolish as to say such a thing. He's just trying to sell more hats. He thinks that running down everyone else is a good business policy. I don't believe that he believes a word of half the stuff he says.

Conclusion: charlatan; snake-oil salesman.

I see his Borsalino listings all the time. But I missed this Q & A. And sure it's not funny. What's the point of selling then? "Customer service" may not be in his dictionary.

If you can't smile, don't open a store :) :) :)

Indeed, I miss the punchline

Wow, that's truly shocking. I own only one Borsalino, but it's definitely a fine hat. I can't believe those are the words of a "professional". What a grouch!! How can a hat seller be anti-Fedora Lounge? We're practically the whole eBay hat demographic.

It's Charlie Swindell - he is well known to some here and on COW. He is, to say it mildly, quite a special personality.

Charlie Swindall, Or Charlie Swildle?

Think about it? I think that is what the Army Surplus guy told Michael Douglas , in Falling Down.
Charlie here kind of reminds me of that guy... Think about it!

Personally, I would never buy a hat from him regardless of the quality that he supposes to produces. I've seen his ads plenty of times. I've never met him, buit I would be willing to bet that he dresses like a used car salesman.

Hi,

I've seen these eBay listings, and I've heard of Charlie S before.

What I wonder is whether this sort of ad is legal under US law and acceptable under eBay rules. If I were him, I'd worry about both of those possibilities. But then, why hasn't eBay shut him down?

Cheers,
Mark
