Great outfits! I love them.

Lauren, I saw that jodhpur picture and thought of you right away! I wonder if i could put buttons on my linen trousers instead of bothering with a zipper...whaddya think?

Queenie,

I saw your thread (yes, I was peeking in the powder room....neither the first nor last time for that I suppose) and it prompted me to register here. If you fly through Cairo on the way to Jordan, spend a few days here and you can go to one of the many "Mobaco Cottons" stores. They have a HUGE variety of safari worthy khaki clothing from shirts and pants to safari vests. The quality is good and the prices very reasonable. If you fly through Paris, any of the "New Man" stores carry the exact same merchandise available at Mobaco but at very inflated prices.

Failing either of these options, there is a company in South Africa that will ship to America and they can be reached at http://www.conservationtrust.co.za . If the shipping costs from RSA are overwhelming, there is a U.S. distributor called Long Grass Outfitters (http://www.long-grass.com) offering the exact same merchandise but again at nearly double the price. Personally, I am very partial to the "Khaki Drill" range of products on these sites and the heavier weight fabric might just suit your upcoming expedition.

The only remaining pieces of gear you might require are duffles from www.filson.com and a pith helmet fit to you by Lock Hatters in London (http://www.jameslock.co.uk) ! :)

Sorry to drop in on The Powder Room, but I love the topic.

Long skirts and safair shirts, and khakis and safari-style blouses were very popular in the 1980s, and they had a vintage flair. Banana Republic sold this look back when their catalogue looked like the J. Peterman catalogue, as I am sure many of you remember.

Anyway, here are some fine examples.

Thanks for the hospitality !

Hemingway,

Doesn't this site have a rule against posting soft-core pornography? For some of us who are enamoured of all things "Africa", that's just what you've done my friend! Actually, I think when a rifle is included in the photo, you may have crossed over to "hard-core"! :D

Seriously, thanks to all for the welcome and I'm glad I could help.

Best Regards,

John

I only wish I could have found better pictures. These are kind of fuzzy.
Thank you for the links, my friend! And a warm welcome to The Lounge.

BTW, is it just my computer or is the background white on this page and the text black?
-Weird, not it's normal again.
