Hat Storage

For the gurus:

Since I have few "real" hat boxes, I'm storing some of my hats in banker's boxes (cardboard w/ removable lid) - these ok for short term storage? Long-term storage? I can get one hat and a flat cap in one box. Should I put anything in it besides the hats? Thanks, J
