Just stumbled upon this through America in World War II's Facebook page. I like the idea.

About the Campaign

This year marks the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II, perhaps the last time America can say "Thank you!" to our greatest generation for preserving our democracy and establishing the gold standard of service that will inspire future generations.

"Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive" is a yearlong national campaign to raise public awareness about the 65th anniversary of World War II (August 14, 2010) and to inspire a renewed commitment to service and national unity in America.

We are forming a coalition of organizations and individuals to achieve three key objectives during our national campaign:

--To call on Congress to designate the second Sunday in every August a national day of remembrance so that the legacy of our "greatest generation" can educate and inspire future generations of Americans.
--To raise public awareness about the 65th anniversary on August 14, 2010 by encouraging communities to hold commemorative events marking the occasion
--To collect first-hand memories of those who experienced August 14, 1945, so that they can be a permanent reminder of a time when the people of our nation united to face common challenges

Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive will engage young and old in a shared intergenerational project that will preserve forever an important part of our nation’s history and heritage, while reinvigorating an awareness of the importance of coming together as a community, honoring service to others, and creating a sense of national unity at a time when America, and the world, are again facing major challenges.
