I've always been a history buff. My first job was clerking for an auction gallery. Then my husband got me into the hotrod scene and car culture. "Dressing up" for the car shows was a blast! So why can't I do this every day? Glad to see (from several posts) that I'm not the only one aspiring to have a totally vintage wardrobe! I've been dressmaking for years and usually gravitate towards the late '40s. This extends to my house - almost all 40s furniture including stove and fridge - and my hobbies - sewing, canning, raising chickens and making do. And, yes, I have sheep and spin.

I've always dressed a bit vintage - I used to flitter from decade to decade, but in January last year I spotted a lady walking down the street with a 20s bob and red lipstick, and realised all I needed was the hair and make up to go completely vintage. I did a 'pinup for a day' workshop shortly after, and since then I've dressed 40s style. The workshop taught me an easy way to do victory rolls, so I do them pretty much every day. I was setting my hair every week, but I ran out of patience for that...
I have a degree in fashion design, so I make a lot of my clothes myself. I've really enjoyed reading the 'what have you made' thread, and hopefully I'll manage to get some of my creations up there soon. I don't have a digital camera though, so it may be a while.
Oh, and hello Canberra and Sydney from Melbourne! Harpy - I'm moving to Canberra next year, maybe we'll be able to meet up!
I'm getting married in October, so I'm currently organising a late 30s Art Deco themed wedding. Loving every minute of it!
So pleased to be here

With a little luck, you'll find an event listed that will allow you to get together with your fellow Loungers. If you come across an interesting event in your area that has a vintage theme consider posting it, you may just turn up some local members that would like to come.
One event of note coming up for May 14/15/16, 2010 is our annual get together in Long Beach in Southern California at that floating Art Deco jewel - the Queen Mary Hotel in Long Beach Southern California. This event brings out the locals and often long distance travelers from across the US and even Europe. If you go to the steamer Trunk section you can search for Queen Mary and view some of the various years postings of pictures. If time and budget allows please join us, it's an open event so come for just an hour or come for the whole weekend. We hope to see you there.
