I recently watched an episode of Wagon Train with Jack Lord in it. For one part of the show, his ribbon was on the wrong side. After a commercial break, it was on the right side.

Actually, his hat was only on backwards for a few scenes in the first 12 minutes or so. The shooting schedule must have been so hectic that no one noticed, not even Jack-o. If anyone wishes to watch the episode in question.

I mentioned in another thread awhile back about revisiting some of the old Western TV series. I've been surprised at the occasional display of bows on the wrong side of mens' hats on some shows. I recently watched an episode of Wagon Train with Jack Lord in it. For one part of the show, his ribbon was on the wrong side. After a commercial break, it was on the right side. Nobdoy else's changed, so it wasn't a reverse image.

Wagon Train was never as good as when Ward Bond was in it! :-D
And if a Cartwright boy on Bonanza ever fell in love, ya knew she'd croak within the hour!

I’ve been looking for a Churchill 50 or 100 for years. They are not common hats and haven’t been made for quite a while.

The dent in mine is not intentional. It’s a “character mark” from age and weakness in the felt. I’ve thought about steaming and reshaping it, but I kinda like it.

Thank you. Yes, sir, it is and they did. Churchill is a brand that in the beginning was produced by Resistol for and sold exclusively by Newman Marcus.

Most [not all] prop hats used in film have no sweat band. This allows the hat to be worn by most any actor regardless of head size. That said....people that normally do not wear hats have no idea if it is on wrong or not.

True in many cases, but my hat fetish also has me trying to peek inside some of the hats when the interior momentarily appears. Most seem to have a sweatband. Most also seem to be unlined.

It would help if you posted a picture and then we could give you more directed instruction. How stiff is the felt? Have you tried steaming it and if so did it soften up enough so you could manipulate it? If it is a newer Stetson and really stiff it could be difficult as the factory bash is set in pretty hard and any alteration could leave the imprint of the original crease .

The problem is most modern wool felt hats won’t hold a shape well. These hats are formed at the factory using presses that give them their shape under tons of pressure. You can try steaming wool and/or adding some shellac, but wool felt can be very frustrating to shape.

I second that. If you like the look 'n' shape of a new wool felt, buy it. But don't be surprised if it is nigh on impossible to reshape the crown in particular. I bought the white Moonshine Spirit Men's 3X Wool Felt in 7 3/8. It fits nicely. It wasn't too round like some of the other makes in the shop. It is my first white hat, although some of my silverbellies have been close.
