The $50 Mallory Dallas. Been working on this thing for a few days. Saying it was dirty doesn't quite describe it. The lining was about as dirty as any I've encountered, about the same color as the sweat bow. The dates on it couldn't be seen. I cleaned it as well as i could w/o a complete removal. The loop on the wind trolley button was rotten and just disintegrated. Still gotta fix that. The felt is incredible and the sweat is in good shape. Even has my initials, though not in the correct order.

...I get an itchin' to ride the rails once in awhile. I've hopped a few freights in my younger years...... a long time ago!
Me too, but it was only for that mile or two between whichever school I was attending at the time and home. :p

Truly a great hat! Does the ribbon actually have a slightly reddish/pinkish hue, or is it just on my monitor?

Wowser. Now that's the hat I want to wear if I ever take up riding the rails. Great find.

Depending on the light, it is a little pinkish. I like it on this hat. Works well with this particular shade of grey.

I never rode more than a few miles either. Always had the fear that I would end up in the middle of the desert if I stayed on too long!

Bittersweet arrival. Takes my mind off the day for a short while. Will post more once I take proper photos and find a suitable thread

I agree; subtle, but effective.

The same tracks went right by our house, my elementary school, passed within 1/4 mile of my junior high/middle school, and right behind my high school. It was so convenient that I couldn't pass up the opportunity if the train was going slow enough for me to climb aboard. Dismounting could be a little tricky if those trains picked up speed, but they were restricted to 25 MPH because they passed through residential neighborhoods so it was doable.

"NEUHEIT / Novelty" "SPITZENKLASSE / Top Class", measures 58cm, late 1930s. This German Velour arrived recently. I am trying to figure out what company made it but that could prove futile. I really like the color and the Velour has a great finish and hand. Also the hat has a very unique liner design with reed piping.

The piping reed is visible the following photo (top of liner).
