It is a lot of hat, isn't it.

First photo is accurate for color - coffee bean and verdigris.

I don't know about the undyed in clear. Have clear in black, clear in silver belly, clear in brown. Maybe the nutria had a crayola diet?

Has a well lived in character. Brim binding is disintegrated in places. Moth activity on the felt is masked by the deep fur pile. A bit rougher than I would normally go for and it didn't come cheap. The color is special. 7" crown, 5" brim. Circa 1930. Will steam, brush and post better photos.
Awesome.

Swann Hats Clear Nutria

Clearly a somewhat less colorful and dramatic memorial for these Nutria...

I'd leave it. With the binding you've got a nice peacock vibe going. You really need to wear a wilder shirt or jacket when wearing that hat.

Thanks... enjoy hearing the feedback.

If I were to replace the brim binding I think I would choose a color that matches the felt as in this one:

though I would first remove the disintegrating ribbon and see how it goes with a raw edge as in this one with pencil curl:

Right now I think I will refresh the felt and think about it for a while.
