This is my first serious Fedora. Before this, I had a couple $15-20 Trilby style hats that I made part of my daily wardrobe and had erroneously described them as "Fedoras". When my girlfriend bought me a gift certificate to the local hat shop here in Seattle, I got some good education and walked away with a decent entry into the world of nice 'lids' (I'm going to need to practice with this term). I suspect that this will not be my last post on this thread as I already have my eye on two more hats.

Nice looking lid! Welcome to the lounge, stick around and you will learn a lot about your new addition. Now we need more information about this hat, what maker? Pictures of the liner and sweat band are also welcome. What hat store in Seattle. I have an old Homburg from Byrnie Utz downtown.

Another interesting hat Steve! The lacing all around the sweat is a neat feature. How can you tell about a wool/fur blend?
Thanks! I tend to think it's Wool but it also have some characteristics of Fur Felt so maybe a blend. I have seen Wool / Fur blends mentioned in old catalogs. I have a number of hats with this type of felt and they have a very unusual hand. I don't think anything like this type of felt was produced in America. I prefer Fur Felt but I really like these too! :)

That is a special hat! Love that ribbon. Wish it fit me!

It really is isn't it.....the ribbon is actually two sewn together (a dark grey on bottom and a light grey on top) then applied to the hat in that cool way (cannot remember what that treatment is called)! The upper (light grey) is the same texture and color as the brim binding......
As YES......I really, really, wish it fit me......,
M

Oops. I forgot to enter that information in my post. This is a Royal Stetson Fedora. I bought it at Byrnie Utz in Downtown Seattle.

Came in yesterday, my first Wormser.

It's a beauty Greg! It also solves that often confusing 'X' to Star quality ratio.

Wow -- great hat M Hatman! Very interesting ribbon work. I hope the hat fits your wife.

I am embarrassed. I just committed the most rookie of all rookie hat buying mistakes. I took it on faith that the seller had the right size listed. Granted, the hat is in what looked to be the original box with a size indicator slip with the 7 1/4 box checked. But that is no excuse, I just saw a beautiful brown Dobbs homburg (listed as a bowler, but I could tell it wasn't) with an early 40's liner in great condition and got excited. Threw out a bid and got it uncontested. It arrived today, and is a size 7. :(
I guess it's going to the classifieds.
I thought I knew better by now, but every once in a while stuff happens.
Here's why I got excited...

It is a nice hat for someone of a smaller noggin! Too bad it was not listed correctly. I had it bookmarked. Dodged a bullet!

Wow!
Heck of a score there, Bama! I gotta get a Wormser. Not just for the quality and style, but also because it amuses my inner child that it has Worms in the name.:)

Thanks, Moe. The score on those two grays is incredible.

+1,Greg,that looks brand new.

Thanks, Robert. Don't believe it's been worn beyond trying on.

Thank you, Bob. Yeah, clear it right up.

Three X's =10 Stars ;)
Just don't touch it with dirty fingers!

Mm, I'm still trying to figure out that math and yes, it's gonna show dirt.

Beautiful Bama !!!

Gracias, Rodolfo.

So clean. In and out. Love the color!

Thanks, Bob. It is one of the most unique colors I've come across. I have about six OR clones in what I guess would be described as silverbelly that range from very light tan to light brown. This one looks closer to white with faint green undertones, depending on the light.

I forgot to post some details yesterday, the crown height as creased is 5" with the brim a full 3". The felt has a good finish though not great. It is thick and dense and certainly no lightweight. The brim is stiffer than my Dorer —50 cowboy hat and cannot be snapped down, as of yet. I'm sure it could be steamed into submission but for now I'll just leave it alone.

Thanks all for the likes and comments.
