After the big Borsalino guns there was also this one. A nifty Resistol wide ribbon hat in grey. With the underwelt brim at a good 5cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent this could be considered a stingy, but it doesn't appear that way. I like the way they made the underwelt look like a felted edge from above; very clever. My third Resistol hat; I like them.

It was a bonus hat, Max. It was just sitting there being a wallflower and I figured I'd send it along with the German made Stetson. If nothing else just to help you develop a taste for the better European feltsMeister Filz. Funny, I don't remember buying this one. Maybe Stefan sent it as a gift with the one he sold me? Juan Carlos brought 35 hats with him, so I don't know.
Anyway, it is a size 57, according to the tag, but it is almost wearable for me. It is either mislabeled, or I have a transformer head. A week in a custom band block should do the trick.
Can you tell me more about this one, Stefan or Steven?
P.S. The dark spots in the felt are due to the steam I just finished applying to it. It was badly wrinkled from being stacked for transport, but it ironed out nicely.
And Ana thought I bought the best steamer for her. How naïve. [emoji2]

Outstanding. It was really expensive, but I don't regret buying it.
The most accurate color is the one on the seller's pics at the bottom.

LONG STORY SHORT

For past few months I have been practising hat making, Here are te first results - basic grey fedora. It's a 5.5 inch tall open crown with ~2.6 inch brim + ~1.5 inch ribbon made out of Czech 100% rabbit felt. After a few takes on the hat I have finally made the shape right for my taste and here it is:
Obviously the that is not perfect. The hat body has not been pounced, so it a little shaggy on the close-up. Each time I have been sanding the hat body, the process has left the mark of the felt - crease alike or a spot, but that's maybe because I was using ready made sanding blocks with rough edges. Any advice on this field is more than welcome.
Also, when I turn the sweatband out is distorts the whole shape of the hat, probably because it's more tubular than cone shaped, like I have seen it done by professional hatters - again, I'm happy to receive any tips on this.
Other tan than that, I think it looks good and I'm definitely going to wear it to the ground, in order to find out what I have done wrong. Let me know what you think.

I think it looks very nice. The sweatband problem is easily solved. You need to bell the sweat when cutting it. After cutting it to length, trim about 1/16" off each end at an angle. The reed point needs to be the correct length, but you need to angle a cut on each end so the "raw" edge on each side is about 1/16" shorter. When you join the sweat, it will be slightly tapered.

It's been sitting in a local vintage store since October, but for whatever reason, I held off buying it. I walked in a fee days before Christmas and told myself, if it was still there, I was buying myself a present. It was. I did.
