Horrible shave....

Merkur HD
Gillette Swedes
Douglas pure badger brush
New Trevarno organic natural soap
Taylor of Old Bond Street alum block
Organic 98% Aloe Vara gel
Alluminium chloride
2 wtg, 1 xtg, 1 atg
Near BBS - but otherwise a terrible shave; the new soap didn't lather well enough resulting in numerous cuts and razorburn. And, Iseem to keep cutting myself the exact samt three to four places each time I shave, quite annoying.

sick...no shave

But..

Jeep out of curiosity where do you keep cutting yourself? I ask because with some spots it is technique and with others it is because the wound needs to heal fully before attempting to shave that spot again.

Soap/Creme can be frustrating...I have found that many that are supposed to be wonderful don't work for me. Either my face reacts to them OR they don't work well with my water. Some refuse to be slick enough for my taste and so sit lonely on the shelf. My favorite at this time in a creme is from Saint Charles Shave; the Smoke and Beads. If you are interested Sue makes a unscented creme and she ships internationally. If you tell here what your problem is with scented products she could tell you if she thinks hers would work.

If the soap isn't slick enough a preshave oil may help, or some will add a little hand cream or body lotion to the soap to make lather.

or glycerin...and Proraso is my other fav

Rushed and sliced myself under the nose....Wet shaving really lets you know when you aren't paying attention, doesn't it?

Thank for the kind advice. It is much appriciated. I have a sample of Proraso I might give a try.

I cut myself in the following places:

- Along my jawline on the right side
- An inch under my lower lip on the left side (this place is especially bad)
- Two places on my upper lip, actually the same place, just mirrored

Jeep, Protruberances such as pimples and ingrown hairs can be issues because they stand up away from the rest of the skin. The other two main reasons I slice myself are having the razor at the wrong angle or the wrong direction of travel. Here's a link to some great videos if you haven't already found them they are worth watching...Mantic's vids are good enough that I have them bookmarked..

My wife thought I was crazy for digging out that old Gillette safety razor, but now she wonders why men quit using them. She claims I'm less razor burned and much smoother than I was when using a multicartridge disposable and cream from a can.

Sounds familiar Gumby. My neck is no longer razor burned from when I would try to use an electric and had to bear down to get a still lousy shave.
Today, slept in and had a leisurely shave.
Omega Badger Brush
Nomad soap
Gillette Adjustable
Derby Blade
Old Spice AS
4 passes and buffed a very nice [almost BBS] shave

After watching Mantic59's videos on YouTube I decided to follow his advice by starting out with only two WTG passes and nothing else pr. shave for 1-3 weeks.

Today's shave:

Merkur HD
Gillette Swedes
Douglas pure badger brush
AOS unscented soap - a kind gift from Cheech at B&B - by far the best lather so far
Taylor of Old Bond Street alum block
Organic 98% Aloe Vara gel mixed with unscented skin lotion
Two WTG passes
Not near BBS - but by far the most pleasant shave of my life. No blood and only a little irritation around some of the old "hot spots" at the neck and belov the lover lip

I guess taking baby steps and not rushing things is the way to go for me.

This morning:

First shave with a vintage 60s British Gillette tech w. alu. handle. Nice little razor, very mild and forgiving even with a brand new Gillette swede inserted
Douglas pure badger brush
AOS unscented soap
Taylor of Old Bond Street alum block
Organic 98% Aloe Vara gel mixed with unscented skin lotion
Two WTG passes
Not BBS, but closer than the last shave. No blood and only a little irritation

60s British Gillette tech w. alu. handle. Nice, but feels way too light when being used to a Merkur HD
Gillette swede
Douglas pure badger brush
AOS unscented soap
Taylor of Old Bond Street alum block
Organic 98% Aloe Vara gel mixed with unscented skin lotion
Two WTG passes and a little buffing
Not BBS, but closer than the last shave. No blood and only a little irritation

Regards.
